I think GLD's point was well articulated, and should be read and pondered by anybody pursuing a career in this industry. Let us remind ourselves that our $hit does stink. I think the point might've been misapplied to FlyChicaga's case. The boy has really grown up over the years on flightinfo. And his accomplishment is not rare, nor was it spun as such. Guy graduates college, get's hired into a truboprop, get's hired into an RJ. Happens everyday. Not exactly Wall Street Journal stuff, but an appropriate case study for the JetCareers demographic.
FWIW, it is really, really annoying to fly with somebody overly proud of their title. Emphasis on the "title," not the job or their performance of it. Their focus is on being seen, and being heard, instead of performing their duties, efficiently communicating with ATC and company, and keeping the airplane upright and out of the weeds.
Excellent work on your captain's voice their junior, but guess what, an air traffic controller is not impressed by your pilotness. Don't cuss out a controller for incompetence after YOU stepped on him. He's better at talking on the radio than you, and always will be. Speak softly, and impress me by your actions, not your words. Don't interrupt and finish my sentences. If you've taken care of something, thank you. But don't BS me by saying it's done when it isn't. [/rant]
