Caring Products International, Inc.’s Guardian™ Door Enters Final Stage of FAA STC Certification Process Satisfying FAA Decompression (Windshield-Bird-Strike) Regulations
Nevada, June 20, 2002 –Caring Products International, Inc. (OTCBB: CPRD) (“CPI”) is pleased to announce that its wholly-owned subsidiary, USDR Global Aerospace, Ltd. (collectively with CPI, “Caring Products“) has entered the final stage of the approval process for certification of its Guardian™ Anti-Ballistic Panel Cockpit Security Door (the “Guardian™ Door”) under the new Federal Aviation Administration (“FAA”) regulations. Caring Products has recently received certification satisfying FAA Decompression (Windshield-Bird-Strike) Regulations and is currently in phase five of the FAA certification process.
The Guardian™ Door was developed specifically to comply with FAA regulations promulgated after September 11, 2001, requiring that all U.S.-registered commercial transport airlines install a reinforced cockpit door by April 9, 2003. The Guardian™ Door is expected to be the first reinforced cockpit door to receive STC certification from the FAA, which Caring Products anticipates receiving by July 2002. STC certification is granted when an applicant has received FAA approval to modify an aircraft from its original design. The current market for reinforced cockpit security doors is estimated to be U.S. $1.8 billion.
In light of the new FAA regulations, the primary difficulty with installing reinforced cockpit security doors is that the structural enhancements now required by the FAA cause the reinforced cockpit doors to weigh significantly more than their predecessors. The heavier weight increases door opening time and, more problematically, decompression pressures. In order to compensate for the increased weight of the door, the Guardian™ Door utilizes a patent-pending secure/passive vent feature that counterbalances the additional weight and allows the heavier reinforced door to react to a decompression event in a comparable manner to that of the lighter, non-reinforced doors originally used on the aircraft. These features thereby allow the Guardian™ Door to satisfy the FAA’s decompression analysis, reducing or eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming airframe structural enhancements associated with currently manufactured cockpit security doors.
The technology used in the proprietary G-Lamä nano-scale, anti-ballistic material incorporated in the Guardian™ Door provides the highest level of ballistic protection and structural integrity at the least weight of any commercially available material. Utilizing the latest nanotechnology (i.e. constructing material on a molecular level), Caring Products is able to integrate superior technological characteristics in a practical application through the Guardian™ Door. Specifically, the G-Lam nano-scale ballistic material has a tensile strength eight times that of m-aramid and tensile strength and tensile modulus nearly twice that of p-aramid (commonly known as Kevlarä Dupont).
The passive vent Guardian™ Door weighs between 35 to 50 pounds and can be installed in 10 to 15 man-hours, reducing the likelihood that airlines will be required to take an aircraft out of service.
