I’ve always tried to be an optimist, but I the way things have been going here at ASA has me wondering. Some things point to a positive outlook for the company, i.e. Delta doing better, having a contract for 80% of the Delta flying out of Atlanta, being one of THE most profitable regionals in the industry… But there are also numerous things that seem to point to the demise of ASA, i.e., displacement bids, loss of 70’s to Skywest, loss of the ATR’s, no current hiring even though we’re short staffed, pilots leaving in droves…

My question is this, where do you see ASA in the next several years and what makes you think that?

I’m just curious to see what folks who have been around here a year or two think. It will be interesting to look back at this thread in a year or two and see who was right…

We're getting to the final negotiations of a new contract. Of course they're gonna do things that scare us into submission. We'll be fine.

From a business sense, you run an airline the way this one is being run for one of two reasons. (high profit margins/low investments in the company)

#1. You want to sell it.
#2. You want to raise capital for something else. Maybe growth.

It also helps your attempt to keep a union off the property at its sister company.

Where will we be in year? My guess is option #2 with more turbo props a bigger LAX base and a contract. However I think there will be more pain between now and then. Just my opinion.:pimp:

We are the most profitable regional airline and the second most profitable of all airlines in the U.S. under SWA. For the record..............

Let's hang in there guys. I think jegermeister is right. It's not easy right now there is a lot of uncertainty that's the way I feel anyways. Hopefully Santa will bring us something we can be happy about for the next 3 years.

The bad thing is now that we've all had to reflect and reponder our situation, most of us want to leave. We wont get much in the new contract, but if they would have settled it sooner alot of us wouldnt be looking to leave. You can make $20-30K more a year at NetJets. Why stay here?

Well we have the highest operating profit margin. Which means the money comes in and mgmt just blows it all on luncheons at the GO and baggage claim fees for the millions of bags we lose. The pilots are doing their part, we need to get our reward!

When TWA went bankrupt and American purchased them, the TWA MEC asked the Delta MEC for help with the pilot integration. They didn't help because apparently TWA was a bankrupt/failing carrier. Look what happened to them.
In other words, the airline you work for, no matter how well they are doing at the present time could eventually be downsized significantly/or dissolved.
I say keep your logbook updated just in case.
