Well after 33 years of continuous operations of the Venerable DC-10 it has flown its last flight for World Airways on Jan. 14th 2011. The only Airline to have operated the type longer was Northwest Airlines that had 34 years with the type.

I am grateful for my time in the DC-10 and it will be sorely missed by me and a few others. The # 1 on our seniority list was hired in 1966 as a Professional Flight Engineer and he had the privilege of the last flight. How many Aviators can you think of in this day and age with a career of that longevity.

I can only hope and dream of a career like that.

I didn't fly it that long, but I will certainly miss it. Like you, I will miss the wealth of experience that sat sideways and kept those of us facing forward in check.

never had the pleasure of flying it, so what happens to all the FE's over there? gone now?

Some went to National and ATI. Some are out building flight time so they can come back. Others decided to hang up the hat for good.
