In that case, I'm gonna take a stab and say that plane does exactly what it is designed to do. It's perf is impressive. It'll do anything a King Air 200 will do, if not a touch better. EXCEPT when you have an unscheduled torque increase...which you will at some point....

If the boss doesn't mind the SE, I'd say go for it.

Can't go wrong with a Platypus if you have no qualms about single engine operations. It literally is an Escalade with wings. BE20 performance on about 65% the budget. The question to your boss should be will it fit your mission needs?

I'd agree with Matt. However, Skywalker never posted the mission, and didn't bother to solicit if the plane would meet any specific need. Therefore I figured he just wanted an opinion on the plane "cause the boss likes it". Since that's essentially all he asked.

Its a great plane but I like two screws spinning out front. Also, if its gonna be used for business, some companies and life insurance policies require 2 engines if ur a big dog.

Your safety record data is skewed. The number of successful engine-out landings in twins isn't in your mix.

You very conveniently edited out of your quote the beginning of my post where I said, "...if you have no qualms about single engine operations." You appear to have qualms about that... fine. I'd prefer a twin also, but I live within my budget allowed to my department.

Go flame someone else, and stop trying so hard to be a smarta$$. You do very well without trying.

Actually pc-12's are getting a premium on the market. You can pick up a king air 200 for a lot less money with that you can have plenty of reserve for any engine issues.

A solid 200 with mid time engines could be had for a million. A pc12 is going for at least double that.

Bingo, thats exactly why we ended up with a very nice 200 for 1.1 mil as opposed to a nice used PC-12 for 2.8 or more.

I guess it depends what you consider nice. Descent but old (79,80,81) KA200 seem to be running at 1.7M....
6K-8K total time, 3/4 left on a 3600 TBO engines, 2 year old interior and paint, and NMDH.

And of course you will want to "pimp it up" with EFIS, TCAS, FMS (maybe a new Garmin unit), etc. - you need to add more cash to that figure.

My previous company bought ours from Darrell Waltrip with about 8500 hrs TT and about 900 hours on the engines. Five year old paint and interior, and a Garmin 400 along with a MX-20 with WSI uplink and Jepp View for 1.1 that beats 2.8 for a slightly used PC-12 anyday. Nothing against the PC-12 we even test flew one and really liked it, but they are still over priced for our budget.

It is amazing the price disparity of the 200 line and the PC-12. Are owners coughing up the extra dough for the lower DOCs or the MASSIVE cargo door? I don't know, but all the North American dealers are sold out through then end of 2009 (the price of the Next Generation airplane is close to 3.8 now!).

hey, been on the high seas, back now so i'll address some of the questions/issues: a 200 at $1.1? where?? of course i'd much prefer that, twin screw and all but i don't hold the checkbook. also, the boss is a pilot, but at 76 years old insurance gets complicated, even for a pc-12. We've got the new adam a-500 and an a-700(twin jet) on order but the factory can't keep the 500 flying(a discussion for another thread) so the boss is getting frustrated and rethinking the plan. the company has prsviously operated a skymaster, centurion, and silver eagle(turbine centurion). even slicing a little off each side dollar wise a king air seems much preferred to the platypus, just how do i convince the boss?

Insurance for a pilot without plenty of turbine multi (nevermind the centerline thrust issue) would be near impossible. My old boss sold his King Air 200 to get a PC-12. Insurance was the main concern, not to mention the rediculous MX bills.

Are you saying that a PC-12 insurance is cheaper? Does this aircraft lend itself to a lower time pilot?

YOU should get the specs on all these planes, and choose which one is right for your operation!!!! They're all good planes, but some do more than the other.

If you were looking at PC-12/BE200 because you had a lot of stuff to haul, plan on leaving 80% of it behind, with a TBM or Meridian.

A variety of missions: mostly the western five states, been as far away as Alaska and Argentina, he just opened an office in Vermont, yeah, I'm definately all over the place! And that 80% costs a $Milloin or more. Mostly just the two of us but sometimes the whole damn family or company. I'm thinking it'll boil down to dollar per pound useful/mile/KIAS. Having trouble finding that site that compares performance on types all on one neat page, any word on that?

Luke, check out http://www.conklindd.com/ and have them run a comparative analysis for you on all the aircraft you are considering. It'll be the best couple of hundred bucks you've spent.
