rumor has it the ATR 42's will replace the F27's. i believe its the FedEx feeders to do this. is any of it true? and what operator<s> is/are thinking about doing that? mountain air?

I hear its the COEX ATR's at Mountain air. (they are the ones out of TN right?)

? for anyone, does the age 60 rule apply???

Steve, the age 60 rule only applies to the airlinews. the frieght people can fly till whenever they cant hold a medical. Mountain Air Cargo is out of Denver NC.

FedEx is in the process of purchasing the ATR 42's right now. They will be assigned to feeders on the West Coast first, probably Empire, starting this Spring. That will be followed by adding ATR 72's later on, possibly in the fall. The 42's and 72's will be added to all the feeder companies at bases where FedEx deems it necessary. Where and in what order these airplanes are assigned have not been entirely decided yet.

60

Age 60 rule applies to all Part 121 carriers. Operators that operate large aircraft under Part 135 or Part 125 are not required to comply with this rule. It makes no difference passengers or cargo.

atr's in denver? whatever happened with the atr's icing problems. i haven't really heard anything about it. just curious.

Re: age 60

Go read FAR 61.3(j) and then tell me what you think.

Did mommy not breast feed you long enough as a child? Bad day maybe? Look, I dont know of any airline pilot who owns a current FAR/AIM so I figured I'd ask here to the people who are in this sort of flying. Thanks for the sarcasm.

Anyway, I believe it is in Denver NC not Colorado. Either way I flew them for six years in New England which has some nasty ice at times. The icing problem was solved by moving the boots farther back on the wing. IE more protected area of the leading edge covered.

I kind of think this was a reaction to the media coverage of the Eagle crash however. The guys were in a 72 holding very slow (160-170 i believe) in severe icing. Birds were walking that night. I doubt any plane would have made it through that after 20 minutes. In contrast the EMB 120 has had more upsets in icing and recieved less attention. Power of the press I guess.
