I had an experience today that made me so angry and also made me want to thank you guys.

On the bus to the parking lot at LGA today, I had the "pleasure" of being forced to listen to one of your gate agents bitch and moan to her friend about how every employee group at Delta has given back money "except the F-ing pilots". She was like...."God, they have to give SOMETHING....everyone else has. Everytime I go up in that cockpit I smile....but I want to spit at them." Mind you, I was sitting right across from her...in uniform.

It seems to me...as an outsider...that you guys are willing to help out, but you want a plan. You want to know where the 30% or whatever it is they're asking for is going. You don't want to just blindly give money to management that at other airlines has proven woefully inept at handling it. Doesn't make me want to spit at you...makes me want to shake your hand.

Anyway...I wanted to say thanks...that if I'm ever lucky enough to make it to a Delta cockpit...maybe I can thank part of my salary to you guys.

One problem is that our customer service has gone down the toilet, and many of those front line people are old and bitter. They need to go. And yes, we are willing to help out, but it is wise to know what you are getting yourself into before you invest. A plan is needed, and it still has to be negotiated. If not, they will need a better plan to get out of Chap 11.

Dam.n....it's too bad we can't re-interview all people in a front-line customer service position. ASA could use a solid house cleaning as well as DAL, I would have NO problem shi.t canning the surly, mean spirited types.

I get pis.sed off at the company, but I DON'T take it out on the pax.

Bingo. Palerider's statement should be posted in every break room at ever station for every legacy carrier in this industry.

Of course, that may mean less money for me...

Now that's funny.....and not without merit!

I have heard comments from stews at times, but other than that I haven't heard anything directly from the others, except mean faces. I just tell them that we have really good and smart people looking at this matter closely. If they don't like that, then they can ki$$ my grits!

Guys,

You are missing the bus......

CSR's don't need to be re interviewed or replaced. It's management. They know they can put the CSRs in stressful situations with little resources and turn them into bitter ol' whiners. They are taking advantage of the last sentence in the above quote.

Rez :

You are right. Management has cut these positions and with the airline running nearly 100% of capacity they are pushed to the max. We pilots are fortunate. When out of the chocks there is little that we ever have to deal with that is not logical and that we don't know the solution to. Most of the time our job is fun.

These customer service folks are out in front of the general public and even if only 1% of the public are jerks, that is still several people an hour. I bet that a gate agent runs into more jerks and nuts in one day that I will meet in a career.

Now the Delta pilots want them to take pay cuts to below industry standard wages to offset their over the top wage and compensation packages....I am not justifying the attitude of the Customer Service Agents, but I understand where they are coming from. I fly out of the same gates and see the same faces often. An offer of Starbucks Coffee and a friendly "hello" go a long way.

Delta's employees will survive, or perish, together.

Fins,

Come on man, you know it isn't all our fault. Everyone who has a stake in this should give up something. Just because we pay dues every month and fought for our wage, doesn't mean that we have to give up a exorbinate(sp?) amount. I know why you WANT us to give up everything---so YOU don't have to. Sorry. They will come after you next.
