You heard it here first...

US Airways met with the CCs to explain that by having employees pay for their travel benefits, those funds are taxable. In order for us to keep our non-rev privileges, the Colgans have agreed to pay the taxes for all of their employees, and provide non- rev privileges as a "Benefit". As a result, we are now able to keep all of our non-rev privileges and are being refunded the $5 dollars we all just paid.

Say what you will about this company (i have said it too) but this is a very generous move by the Colgans, and we all owe them a big thank you.

I hope this helps you all have a happy day!!:D

From: Mike Colgan

As we announced previously, US Airways had decided to change the 2004 Travel Pass Program for Affiliate carriers, including Colgan. That Program would have resulted in every employee paying a service charge for each trip flown.

We recognized that this would be a significant change to our benefits and we, along with the other affiliates, worked with US Airways to create a different arrangement.

We are happy to announce the new program for 2004 will provide FREE travel throughout the US Airways and US Airways Express systems for anyone participating in the term pass program. In addition, unlike past years, there will be no annual fee or administrative fee to participate in the term pass program. The program is completely Free.

In order to accomplish this, the company will have to pay an administrative fee to US Airways in excess of $75,000. We felt that this benefit was important to our employees and we have agreed to accept the charge so that the pass program can be free to all employees.

If you have already paid the administrative fee of $5.00, this amount will be refunded to you.
If you have any questions regarding the program, please contact Naomi Dodson

Happy Holidays & Happy Travels in 2004!

Wow

Let me get this straight.....

The COMPANY paid the fee so the employee's could continue to travel, instead of the employees paying the fee with each and every trip?

Holy crap - talk about a very nice christmas present. I was wondering how commuters were going to be able to do it....

I doff my chapeau to the Colgans.....

Something sounds a little fishy here...big ol'one, you are anti-pilot? Then why are you on this board? Are you one of the Colgans?

Naomi is the POC for pass travel. The Colgans just gave everyone a bonus check for the year as well.

It's nice that they are putting the PFT money to good use!

How ya doing big ol' one?? Miss me yet?? :D

You can stop laughing now!

Nah, she's a fiesty girl who does all of our hotel and travel stuff. Read the earlier posts and you'll see why she's anti- pilot.

I hope this helps you all have a happy day!!

Thanks for the info- it certainly made my day happy!!

Thanks Mike and Chuck!!!

Now I know why The Colgans got the Regional Airline Executives of the Year award from CRA Magazine and the RAA. Seems ol Chuck can still throw his Senatorial muscles around.

Merry Christmas!!!

Life is good.

It was a very good business decision. It would be hard to recruit new PFTers who would most likely be commuters when commuting would take more money from their pockets.

Two good business decisions this month both putting smiles on his employees faces.

Holy Shiite

You know you hang out in the quagmire for long enough and a rose petal will float by, thank you very much to the Colgans for this extraordinary show of compassion to the employees. They realized what a hardship the service charge would impose on commuting pilots, especially the first officers who really cant afford a crashpad let alone 100+ dollars a week to do a three leg commute.
This really makes me think that these guys are not all that bad, as much as there are certain aspects of this company which need addressing when an olive branch like this is extended we need to be grateful.
Thanks once again Senator and the Colgan's we really do appreciate it.
Thanx, Mung.

Ok...I've dogged Colgan on this board when they've done crappy things to their employees (or future employees) so I should congratulate them when they do something good for them too. Keep it up!

Maybe I will do that PFT with RAA to get on with Colgan, they seem like fair people. If only it were a training contract...pay $18000 up front but are reimbursed monthly for 2 years. You know, leave before 2 years you dont get back all of your money. If it were set up that way it might be acceptable.

Well I'm sure this is a load off the Colgan Pilots minds...congratulations.

Actually, i guess i should change the "anti-pilot" thing. on the contrary, some of my favorite people are pilots- you guys know who you are;) i was a little irritated when i made that profile...

chperplt- i'm doing pretty well. just finished finals and hopefully i'll finish my degree sometime this decade. thanks for asking. you know you're missed here! actually, watch the mail- i just sent you something today.

Happy Holidays to all of you!! i'm glad i was able to bring you some good news to brighten your day- one of the few perks of being cooped up here in the office. i'll look for you guys next time i fly the line!

Well if it's really true.....it made my night!

I am TOTALLY floored by this one. Thanks Colgans!!

Sweet!!!

This one threw me for a loop too! The wife and I had tears in our beers over paying $20/leg... that sounds pretty darn sad, but we're like, poor and stuff.

THANKS COLGANS!!!

Does a non-PFT'er have a shot at landing an interview with Colgan?

NO, you have to do it like everyone else. That wouldnt be fair for the others would it? If it was not PFT I would have been at RAA and have gone to Colgan last summer.

Isn't this a great example of the Stockholm Syndrome. You guys are so grateful that you're not paying to commute after dropping 11 Grand (or whatever it is) for a job in a 1900. It kind of sounds like a bunch of hostages thinking the terrorist is a swell guy because he didn't shoot you in the head.

Enjoy,

S.
