Scheduled to go to TEX around Thanksgiving. Will be airlining home and back the next week. Assuming wx will allow an arrival into TEX or at least MTJ where would be the best place to repo the plane for a hanger (at least part of the time) and to catch an airline back to the southeast - through ATL, CLT? TEX itself, MTJ, DEN, COS, etc? Would also like to spend a day or 2 in TEX if possible.

telluride

We go in there all the time.
United / Great lakes out of TEX does a good job getting us back to MSY via DEN.
If you need hangar MTJ had lots of space in their new hangar last summer. MTJ also has lots of RJ flights to hubs other then DEN.
You need to check with the airport athority at TEX they told us that they were going to close the runway for drainage work till ski season.

The runway is under construction currently. You might want to make arrangements now to land in MTJ.

I was told it should only be through October. Does it look like the runway will take longer? Thanksgiving is the first day the slopes are scheduled to open.

Tex has some hanger space, but the next best would be montrose I think the notam says 10/31 for the runway to open you can bet it will be open for Thanksging that is opening weekend.

Don't forget to account for TEX's after sundown t/o-landing curfew in your flight planning. Details on the airport website. Also, required slot reservations at all the ski country airports during holidays.

Doesn't appear for Thanksgiving. The STMP appears it will start around mid-Dec. From NBAA:
Ski Country STMP Recommendations Approved for the 2006-2007 Ski Season

MTJ and TEX airports will be removed from the Ski Country STMP. For 2006-2007, the STMP will include only ASE, EGE, and RIL.

Playbook routes will continue to be utilized as a means to create structure for the traffic destined to the ski country airports. The use of structured routes aided in the decision to remove both MTJ and TEX from the STMP for 2006-2007. Users will be expected to file the playbook routes if demand or anticipated demand results in the issuance of the ski country routes advisory.

The number of days in which the STMP is utilized will be reduced. The workgroup removed the July 4th weekend from the STMP for 2006-2007. Like last year, there will be a period around the Christmas and New Years holidays, a period around President’s weekend, and a period in March. Dates for the STMP were not finalized at the CDM meeting but will be confirmed by the October 26, 2006 NOTAM publication.

The daily STMP start/end times will be modified to begin each day at 0800MST and end at 1800MST. This will help align the STMP with sunrise/sunset times since many operators are unable to operate outside of daylight hours.

i.e. Drinking is def. in:)

Not sure about the progress. I do know that a percentage of people up there are suffering from oxygen deprevation. I would keep an eye on it. Have fun! I'm headed to MTJ manana.
