Got a 3 day this week and probably gonna venture into NYC on my own. Anyone have tips on how to pack the most into 1 day. I'd like to see the statue of Liberty, and various other historic sights. I will be in NJ and probably take a bus to Grand Central unless you have any better ideas. Maybe I can catch a ferry from NJ to Ellis Island and start there.

Maybe start at the Statue of Liberty. Then head downtown to the South Street Seaport. Maybe walk up Wall Street to Ground Zero if you haven't been. After that maybe head up to the Village for some people watching or shopping before going to midtown to check out the Empire State Building and observation deck. Once you're done there head over to the Intrepid.

New York's a blast! If you only have a day, hit the pubs and deli's.
Save the tourist stuff 'till you have more time. Trust me, NYC folks will entertain you.

Get a map of the city, and make a plan. Great food, pubs, people.
Have a good time.

"Blarney Rock", just N. of M. S. Garden.:)

Edit; Since you're fltyimg into TEB, get a room in Seacacaus (sp?) many hotels in a courtyard setting. Plus a bus runs every 20/30 mins. to NYC.

Intrepid

USS Intrepid Air, Sea and Space Museum

The Museum includes the USS Intrepid, a WWII aircraft carrier, a ballistic missile submarine and a Concorde. The USS Edson, DD946 was a portion but has been moved.

Stay at the Sheraton Suites in Weehawken. The ferry is right out the front door. Takes you right across the river to 43rd street, right next to the Intrepid. Make sure you eat a meal in Little Italy.

I'll be there Thursday, Friday night until Sunday, next Wednesday, and next Friday.

And for the love of christ, don't be like my boss and want to eat a Chevy's freakin Tex Mex or the ESPN Zone when you're in NYC.

Brett is right

Stay at the Sheraton in WeeHawken (Houlihan's pub just down the block). Take the NY Waterways to midtown. I have walked from the terminus up restaurant row to Time Square. Also, from the same terminus, you can take the Waterway to Liberty Harbor Landing and Wall Street. Do not forget to ride the Staten Island Ferry. Do not be afraid of the subways and for sure make a stop at Grand Central Station for some people watching and live performance actors and musicians (FREE entertainment). Same goes for Central Park. If you like Italtian, then you must walk down Mulberry Street (Li'l Italy). Try the world famous Umberto's Clam House!! Chinatown... need I say more? The Metropolitan and Gugginheim Museums and the City of New York Public Library (the one with the lions on the steps). When back on the New Jersey side, a night pubbing in Hoboken (next to Weehawken) is a must!! Have a blast!!

Well folks.....just spent my day in the city. I am worn flat out. I must have walked 20 miles. I stayed in Secaucus and took the usual bus to the Port Authority. I took the Subway to Battery Park. I was really siked about going in the Statue. But to my disappointment, they were sold out for the day at 10:30AM. Apparently, if you want to make sure you get tix, you need to call 2-3 days in advance. So then I hopped back on the sub and headed for Times Square. I grabbed a gyro (yum) and took it to Rockefeller to eat. Sat down and watched people for a while. Then walked all the way to and thru Central Park. After that I decided to try to get stanby tix for the Late Show. Again disappointed. However I did get a peak at Billy Crystal. Also popped in the Hello Deli to buy a drink and said hey to Rupert. After that I treked all the way back to the Port Authority and came back. My feet are swollen, my back hurts, and my hip may be dislocated. But thanks everybody for the tips.
