Loudness and Clarity

On a scale from 1 to 5.

Five being the loudest and clearest.

Five by five = Loud and Clear.

I have no idea where it came from.

Marconni?

I was told that back in the days of OLD OLD radios there was a signal strength meter that showed 5 as the highest (best) reception. Sounded plausible to me....

Five by Five?

I know that, that phrase means loud and clear. But where does it come from? What does each number stand for?
You know, I thought I could dig up this post in a "nanosecond" with a forum search, but wouldn't you know it, a search on "five by five" is useless!

Sorry - no matches.

Please try some different terms. The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : five, by, five

Anyway, this was answered on another thread. Here's a link: Five by Five
