Recent news reports are touting the discovery of various written documents authored by Al-Queda leaders. The documents purport that they are planning on attacks here this summer. The targets are said to be other mass transit entities beyond the airlines. Specifically, bus and rail transportation.

Although I personally don’t rely on those methods of transportation, it gives me pause to think on how this new ‘threat’ might affect this country. I see the constant promotion for the of using buses and trains to alleviate traffic congestion and to help the environment out from various greenhouse gasses. I would speculate, that this latest revelation by the Department of Homeland Security, is not going to do much to instill confidence in the traveling public, to use public transportation. Now it’s not just the muggers, sick drunks, and inconvenience one must endure in these public conveyances, but the fear a Madrid type situation on a subway, elevated train, or Am-Track. I’ll stick with my private, personally owned cars to go from point A to point B.

What do you all think about this subject?

I've been told over and over that if you're going to live in this society, you have to live by societys rules. The people of the middle east refuse to conform to our peaseful society. They have lost their chance to live in this peaceful world, DON'T STOP BOMBING UNTIL THERE ISN'T ONE GRAIN OF SAND IN THE MIDDLE EAST.

But, Will you take a bus, train, pogo stick, car, bike, or walk?

They have ruined my chances of a career flying airplanes and my second choice of a career is a railroad engineer, the starting pay is well over $60,000. a year and it only requires a high school education and they are hiring like mad. Now the ragheads are going to fuk that up.

KILL EVERY ONE OF THEM

I repeat, how will you travel.....your method of conveyance? Not your career aspirations.

If you can't work how the he!! are you going to travel????????????

We MUST terminate the source of the terror, terminate the people that refuse to conform to societys rules and this will be a world of peace once again.

Until we nuke the middle east the world will be forced to live in fear, I saw a movie about 20 years ago called "Escape from New York", the U.S. will end up just like this movie unless we terminate the source, the whole middle east.

(sigh) Gives up on trying to establish a dialog. BTW, OTHERS ARE WORKING, and they all don't have their 'dream job'. Go to Med school and become a dentist. THEN, how will you travel?

What about the railroad engineers that have to run the trains, they will have to work every day not knowing if the track that they run on is going to blow them to pieces. Apparently you don't realize how much this country relies on railroad freight.

I'm sick of this **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**, I wish I was back in the Marine Corps.

crowbar, if that's your girlfriend in that avatar....
I'll get you a job at the railroads, just pm me your address info so I can locate the nearest facility:D

Crowbar

Yes, I DO realize how much the nation depends on freight by rail. But, that's a topic for a different thread. I have given up on you answering the question I posed three times now. It's really a very simple question. You seem to be embroiled in your own vitriol so deeply, that you cannot answer the question posed to you. Bye-bye.

I can get myself a good paying job on the railroad, but what's the use if you don't know if you're going to make it home to see your family because the ragheads have bombed the track, jarhead posed a question about personal transportation, he doesn't realize that transportation pertains to freight also, when the rail freight stops running this COUNTRY STOPS RUNNING.

Yes, and when the powerplants are blown up, and when the water supply is full of poison, and when cities are nuked.......that's all going to shut down America too. I was simply trying to elicite a rational response to a new, SPECIFIC threat by Al-Queda about attacking TRANSPORTATION this summer. That's moving PEOPLE, not freight. That was the specific threat, not cars of coal, grain and cattle, but subway's and bus stations.

Sheesh, why is this such a hard questtion ot understand? I know the questions are harder on college entrance exams, and this is not one of them.

A conversation between Jarhead and Mrs. Jarhead:

Jarhead: Would you like to go out for supper tonight at the golf club?

Mrs. Jarhead: Is their gas in the car?

Jarhead: Yes, but would you like to go out to dinner?

Mrs. Jarhead: Is your brother coming over tomorrow to help paint?

Jarhead: Yes, but I need to know If you want to go out to dinner, so I can make reservations if you do. Do you want to go out to dinner?

Mrs. Jarhead: Would you rather do that than barbeque on our grille?

Jarhead: Yes, I’d rather go to the club. Why do you think I asked you if you wanted to go out tonight?

Mrs. Jarhead: I have no idea, why did you ask?

Jarhead: I give up……….I’m going to nuke a hot dog and watch a ball game on TV

Don't use the bus, didn't ever use the bus, ain't gonna use the bus. (or train, etc) If I can't get there in my pick up, I'm not going.

enigma

I happen to be in your camp, Enigma. But, I live in rural America. I wonder how those in New York City, Boston, Chicago, etc, who regularly use mass transit to get to get to their jobs on Wall Street and such jobs. I would not be surprised if such an attack would be successful, that we'd see gridlock from cars being chosen vs. trains and buses. I knew there was a reason I settled in a town of 17,000 people with no bus or train service when I left the Corps for civilian pursuits. But, we all can't live in little towns, or else they'd be big towns. (Confused myself with that last sentence)

The sky is falling!!!!

Terror in America. How ironically apt and accurate that is. Terrorists live to induce terror. They are succeeeding.

Here's a thought:

We have enemies. They mean us harm and will stop at nothing to inflict same. WGAF who and why; it just is.

I think we should all run in circles with rolling eyes screaming in abject horror at the prospect. Or mabe we should cower instead

NO! We should honor the memories and sacrifices of our ancestors; if you'll pardon the cliche: the founding fathers. And all their descendants including your mothers and fathers during WWII, Korea and Viet Nam, your uncles and cousins in Beriut and Somalia and your brothers and sisters in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Jesus! What a nation of wusses we have become! I don't want my wife or kids or friends killed on a bus, but that doesn't mean I am going to imprison them, or myself, in my house in fear of what might happen.

Wake up! Threads such as this are evidence that the terrorists are winning. Have some guts. Stop running in circles at the slightest hint of danger. Americans have died by the thousands since the 1700's to defend an ideal. During WWII. it was a symbol of the deepest pride imaginable to put the star in your window signifying that a member of your family had died defending the principles upon which this country was founded

The signatories to the Declaration of Independence were not afraid to look their enemies in the eye and tell them to go to he11. They are rolling in their graves at the cowardice and fear to which we succumb at the prospect that SOMEONE MIGHT GET HURT. Oh, God, NOOOO!

You will not win a war by avoiding pain. You will win a war by having the courage to endure what pain is necessary to accomplish the goal.

Axel,

Your point(s) is/are well taken. I guess I personally would take a less extreme view than you have articulated. First, I don’t think anyone advocates running around in circles hollering that “the sky is falling” I also don’t think anyone will imprison themselves and their family in their home. I do think that some prudence is appropriate however. Just as I don’t let my wife walk alone down a dark street at night in a drug dealing neighborhood, neither would I permit them to board a train if they start being bombed. I don’t think it’s any American’s duty to be suicidal. Even Marines go out in at least squad strength in dangerous parts of Iraq. I don’t think that makes them ‘wusses’; it makes them prudent. A dead Marine serves no purpose, and dead civilians serve no purpose.

I use private transportation and always have. Never ride buses or trains, but a lot of folks do. I believe many would re-evaluate that practice if buses and trains became targets, just as many avoided air travel right after 9-11. That’s coming back now, but another downed commercial flight by a SAM missile would stop a lot of that recovery. This is just the reality, IMO

Ya, I was a little spooled up when I wrote that and did yake a bit of poetic license. However the prmise remains the same.

I do not advocate clearing mines by stomping on them, but we have to understand that when the Government declares condition orange and we react by curtailing our freedoms and slowing our economy the terrorists ARE accomplishing their goals.

Homeland security is charged with our protection, but cannot prevent hang nails and we should not expect them to. It is our duty as Americans to get on with our lives, despite the threat..
