Normal people are smart and drive across town to buy a car.

Stupid pilots can fly a couple states away and make the process more complicated.

I've researched everything except tags/lisc. plates. A dealer would have temps but buying from a private party, there isn't that convenience. I just want to be able 2 drive home a couple states away and not be worried about being pulled over.

Anyone know?

Thanks in advance.

i've done it. i went to a dealer with the title and bill of sale and paid like 30 bucks for a temp tag. then drove her 2400 miles. was pulled over often with in teh middle of nowhere states.

Some states will issue a 10 day or a 30 day paper tag for the back window. Check out the .gov website for the state your buying in.

Yup.

I buy and sell at least one if not 2 cars a month on eBay, have them shipped in if they're not drivable, but pick them up if they are, fix problems they might have, then sell them for extra cash.

Nice hobby, nets me $2k or $3k a month extra on my off-days.

Go down to your local DMV / DOS (Dept of Safety) or wherever it is that issues your tags and tell them what you're planning on doing (or even better call first, they might have somewhere different to send you). Most of the time they'll have everything you need right there, fast and easy.

eBay buying has become very popular lately, it represents a HUGE demographic of used car sales and is growing, you'd have to live in a pretty small town for the DMV not to have picked up on it and put something in place for it.

Incidentally, half the time I don't even bother with a temp tag, I just drive it back. If you get pulled over and you have a copy of the eBay ad (which has the VIN on it), a bill of sale with the name and driver's license number of the seller (who is on the registration), and a copy of the current registration on the car, it's a very quick discussion and you're on your way.

Have a nice drive!

What'd you buy?

Dammit! Was that you that outbid me on the black Viper last week?

Sh*t, man, I'm on AAI 1st year f/o pay. The only Viper I'm bidding on is a Battlestar Galactica toy for my kid. :)

If that is all you want, then....drive home on Sunday pre-church, thru lunch, and post-church, and absolutely do the limit. Wash the car and armor all the tires.

If you do the above your chances of being pulled over are nill. If you do get pulled over, plead stupidity on the plates as you just bought the car, etc etc
