My f/o this month has one and loves it. It looks nice, isn't heavy and the ANR powered by the ship is a BIG plus. I ran an ANR in the E120, but it had a battery pack, which was a pain. They seem a bit expensive, but he claims it works very well. Telex has been a good product for me, I have had a 5X5 with a molded earpiece for the last five years with no problems at all. Let us know how it works out. Where's the best price you've found for an 850?

There has been discussions on the 850's..

I had one for about a year, switched to Sennheiser's.

They are an improvement over the 750's and all the other comments are accurate.

I changed because at higher airspeed's (above 300 in the CRJ) the wind noise was still there and no matter how hard you tried you cannot get rid of it. The volume levels will drop on the audio panel, but when you go fast they go right back up.

Personally, I found mine on E-bay.. brand new and about $280...

I don’t know what you will be flying but I love my 850's. they have worked well in the ATR and citation jet. I am now flying the EMB and the wind noise is still hearable at high speeds. I have tried using ear plugs under them and it works. (no sound at all, they have a loudness switch on the side by the anr switch) It is a pain though and I don’t mind a little noise so I don’t use the plugs.

I payed 400.00 with tax at sun n fun and thought I got a good deal.

They are an improvement over the 750 but that doesn't say very much. If your hearing is already half or more gone just about any headset will be perceived as "quite." If you still have good hearing and you are interested in keeping it buy something with real hearing protection.

ANR is only effective at reducing lower frequency noise. Wind noise is largely unaffected by ANR systems regardless of their quality. The only way to reduce wind noise is by physical noise dampening material between your eardrum and the cockpit environment. Ear plugs or full earcup hearing protection is the only way to achieve this.
