Telex Airman 500 ANR?

Does anyone here use this headset. I'm looking for a light ANR headset to use in GA airplanes and was wondering how well the airman 500 works. How is the passive noise reduction (incase the battery dies in flight) and how quiet is the active. Also, if you could tell me what kind of airplane your using it in. Thanks.

I haven't used the Airman 500, but I have used the Sennheiser HMEC-25KA in a C172. The units are similar. I was impressed with it. It took out a little more noise then with my Passive DCs. The Passive on them wasn't that good, however. I'm still impressed with the headset. I've used it quite a bit in A-90 King Airs and hope it works just as well in Saab.

I picked it from CMW Aviation Supplies out of Vero Beach (www.aviation-headset.com). I picked up a refurbished set for about $390.00. Its factory refurbished and in excellent condition. You might want to check him out. Hope this helps. Thanks.

I've had a ANR 500 for about 5 years now. When it's working it works good. However, it's broken on me twice for the same problem (IC board), so I'd say the reliability is not what it should be. The last time it broke I demanded a new headset, and Telex sent me a new one. No complaint about Telex's service . . . . very prompt and courteous and they fixed it/replaced it at no charge, but there's no reason for something like that to break twice for the same reason unless the early circuit boards had design defects.

Used one for a few months. Not to impressed with performance or comfort. Active noise reduction is below average and the earcups sit directly on your ears, not to comfortable for me. I liked the ANR 200 better.

Everybody I know that has/had one is switching to the bose. I've heard the same complaints as above, don't work well in piston planes and uncomfortable. If still interested, avshop has em' for 475$.

I have been using the Airman ANR 500 for a little over four years now and have been quite pleased. It is a very very comfortable headset for the longer flights, extremely lightweight, and it is extremely effective at canceling out the unwanted noises. The 9V battery should give you around 50 hours of continuous use. The warranty is also good, mine broke ( top part came loose) and Telex sent me a brand new one with no questions asked. I have also experimented with the Bose X sets but I found them to be extremely uncomfortable after about an hour of wearing them. I will admit the noise reduction was awesome but no way would I compromise comfort just for the reduction.
