Two teenage boys are in jail after stealing a small plane and taking it on a joyride. Police say the boys stole it from big bear airport and crashed it at Joshua Tree National Park last night. And the two boys escaped with only minor injuries.

Two national park service workers spotted the 14-year-old boys along the side of the road. The workers asked them what happened. That's when the boys told them about their bumpy ride.

The national park's spokesperson says the plane's not completely destroyed. But he says the boys are lucky to be alive.

“The area where it landed was at the bottom of the valley where there’s sandy soil,” Joe Zarki with Joshua Tree National Park told us. “So, when the plane hit it, it skidded. There was damage to the propeller and landing gear, of course. It was lucky it landed in a fairly sandy area, as opposed to some of the more rocky terrain we have here.”

The boys are now at riverside county sheriff's department. It's not known whether they will be charged with anything.

Yet people say corporal punishment is cruel. I think not.

I see the natural selection process didn't work this time. Hope they don't breed too much. The gene pool doesn't need any more stupid genes.

They survived eh? TOO BAD!

Next time they will probably steal something bigger and kill a few innocent bystanders...

If one was manipulating the controls under the hood and the other was safety pilot, can they both log PIC?
