MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- A 16-year-old stole a Cherokee Piper from a nearby airport and spent a half hour scaring neighbors by flying just over the tree tops and swooping over police cruisers, police said.
Nathan Wyatt Frost of Rockvale was arrested Wednesday and charged with endangering the lives of Eagleville residents after police finally caught the youth when he abandoned the plane at the Murfreesboro Airport at 4:30 a.m.
Despite his antics, Murfreesboro Police Deputy Scott Daniel was impressed by Frost's ability to maneuver the plane and swooping up and down in order to "buzz" houses.
"The kid was a good pilot," Daniel said, comparing the sight to watching an air show.
According to police, Frost stole the red and white plane from owner Hank Williamson from the Shelbyville Municipal Airport late Tuesday night and flew over homes in Eagleville, scaring the residents and even forcing one family to rush out of the house.
Murfreesboro Detective Maj. Chuck Thomas said Frost is currently being held in juvenile detention and has been interviewed by Federal Aviation Administration investigators.
"We were glad he didn't get hurt or hurt anybody," Thomas said. "From what everybody said, he was a skilled pilot. He kept control."
Daniel noted in his report that an argument with another teen over Frost's girlfriend may have prompted the late night stunt show.

This is the best part......Despite his antics, Murfreesboro Police Deputy Scott Daniel was impressed by Frost's ability to maneuver the plane and swooping up and down in order to "buzz" houses. "The kid was a good pilot," Daniel said, comparing the sight to watching an air show.

great...now there will be more people up in arms about how unsecured GA airports are. This is nothing but bad news for aviation.

Doesn't look like he's going to jail for Piper, looks like he's going for Cherokee, since he stole a Cherokee Piper.

Where are the power lines when you need them.

Why don't this Cop Daniel ask this kid out on a date already. Geez...

Too bad he won't need those skills in the Airbus, how's his video game skills?

Yep, same town. The road that they got him on has to be the straightest and least traveled road in the state. poor guy..haha

What can the kid actually be charged for besides wreckless endangerment and for flying low? He didn't technically steal the plane, since this was the place he took his training and rented from.

The airplane belongs to the FBO, not the cockaroach who took it. Unless he had already rented it and/or it was dispatched to him by the FBO before it closed, he flew it like he stole it.

I see. Looks like this kid may be a student pilot forever. He needs to get punished pretty stiff for this action.
