Never had much of a problem with the taxi out but here is my dillema. Take this for example. Here is the airport diagram http://www.naco.faa.gov/d-tpp/0505/00917AD.PDF and lets say that I am east of 18 on Sierra. I need to go to go to the intersection of KILO and Bravo. Taxi Instructions are "Taxi to the ramp" Am I then cleared to cross all runways because I am not going to an active runway at that point. What if the instruction "to the ramp via romeo and bravo"? Do I have to hold short of 9C at that point?
Good question Mnixon. I would taxi Sierra, Romeo, Charlie, Kilo, Bravo.
If 9C is not an active runway, I too am curious on others inputs on if you can cross it or does ATC expect the pilot to take all available taxiways without crossing runways when possible when given instructions such as "taxi to ramp".
Keep in mind the best course of action if unsure is to verify crossing another runway. Another side note, you can always call tower on the telephone and ask for clarification. I have had telephone calls with towers about the taxi instuctions (of course when I am not in the plane taxi-ing).
If you do call the tower in SFB, let us know what their response was.
If you were told to taxi to the ramp from Sierra and 18, you should take the most direct route which would be Romeo, Charlie and Kilo to the ramp. (Assuming you're meaning DCA parking.) If you were instructed to taxi to the ramp via Romeo and Bravo, you may cross both the 9R approach end, (There are still hold markings on Romeo on either side of the approach end of 9R correct?), as well as 9C unless otherwise directed. As mentioned in previous posts, it will never be a mistake to clarify as you near the intersection in question. Good luck!
