So Tax season is coming up and I was wondering how people are using exempts etc for being in the airlines. Im single, a commuter, and have no dependents. Any advice?
Second question is what are majors looking at as far as logbook entries? I make an entry for everyday but i have been told alot of guys are just using one entry for a months worth of flying. I just dont want to have an interview one day and be told that my logbook is sloppy.
Thanks for the help
Hi Tyler,
If you don't own a home or have rental properties, some place where you are paying mortgage interest you are hard pressed to get enough deductions to beat the standard personal deduction that the government gives you. It is worth trying to itemize but with out enough "legit" personal deductions through itemizing, the standard deduction works best for most.
As far as the log book goes I use to write in my log book by the day, crew # tail # block hrs etc. Then I bought a palm pilot and started using that airline pilots logbook program. At the end of the month I'll save the info, print it out, put it in a binder and just put a total for the month in my logbook. I put a note in the log book explaining this and I'll bring it all with me to an interview. There's a total for the logbook and if they want to see individual legs etc they have a binder to see what backs up the total.
(
what ever you do have some way of backing up the monthly total if that is what you are going to do! Pay sheets that show the crews you've flown or something like that.) There has been no problems with anyone accepting this format at an interview in fact I've been complimented on it. Adding those thin plastic post it flags at high points, like getting your ATP, upgrading, soloing (you get the point) was well received too. The logbook program is as good as gold when you've flown a long day and need to see required rest or 30 and 7 and you are too tired to sit there and figure it out.....)
The palm pilot and program will eventually be paid for by the cost of those little red books that everyone carries. Think about it @ $6 bucks a piece 10 will pay for the program. Depending which palm you buy, you can have a phone, mp3, picture/movie player and even Internet for email and web browsing if you spring for something like a Treo 700p. Sorry for the run on sentences and fragmented thoughts as I was fixing my boys lunch while doing this post. Hope this was some help....

PS: I don't work for these guys in fact I'm pissed at them for not refunding an incorrect unlock code I bought in a rush one morning.... but it sure is a cool tool!
