I saw an interesting sight in LGA a few nights ago. A CHQ FO (a female) had tattoos up and down her arms that were clearly visible and rather scary.

Don't most airlines require long sleeves with body art like that??

But she was female, right?

Have you ever been to Daytona Beach during bike week? If not, you're sure to see very large woman in leather sitting on the back of a bike holding on for dear life..

But she was female...

Errrr... Was she in uniform at the time?

I think visible tattoos violates just about every airline's dress code. One of our FA's had a tatt in the inside of one of her calves, and after getting a good hollerin', started wearing a very large band-aid patch over the tattoo, under her stockings.

Most other tattoos are covered by clothing, I guess. One of our former female FO's apparently had quite a collection of body art, but you'd never have known it (I, for instance, didn't know it until she wore a cropped top at dinner on an overnight, thus bringing parts of some tattoos into view). Our CP wears long sleeves when he flies, and it finally dawned on me that it's probably to cover the tattoo on his forearm. Or maybe he just likes perspiring, I don't know. Not my business.

:D

every airline has their dress code. Check the company manual or pilot contract- if there's nothing addressing tattoos, then I'd interpret it as being ok.

Sure it may not be "professional" but it's legal. no need to flip out.

I have tattoos on both forearms and I'm an official, professional, genuine airline Captain. Nobody that matters has ever said a word about it.

I've got one on my forearm and no one has ever said Boo to me either. It actually looks like my avtar.

What's up ZigZag?

Okay, forearm guys, this wasn't an attack on tattoos... Just answering the question. I know that USAir's "Impressions of Excellence" has some reference to tattoos, but I don't know what it specifically says since I don't have any tattoos.

Just because noone has ever said anything to you about your tattoo doesn't mean it's not theoretically prohibited by your company, you know.

impressions of excellence is defunct, and never was truly enforceable anyways, thankfully

Cool, at least I now know I don't have to wear my hat!

Whoops, that's a different thread. ;)

Well , you know what they say about chicks with tattoos........

..........Wham, bam , thank you, ma'am.

Not to get too far off the subject, but while we are discussing professionalism, I was standing in line at Starbucks @ SEA-TAC terminal behind an Air Wisconsin guy a couple of mornings ago, this guy was a capt, in uniform, a blue baseball cap on, shirt unbuttoned, top two with no tie! I was in street clothes non-reving, couldn't believe it!! He just stood there like he owned the place!! Is that the norm over there at AW??

From posts here, I've always had a more professional image of them!! After he walked away from the counter, the guy behind me asked what kind of airplane that guy flew, then said I hope he flies better than he dresses!!

What does Marcelous Wallace look like??
What?

Minh :D

(Glad you can get on with tattoos, cuz I'm wrapped up wid 'em.)
