Tampa Flying Jobs

Moving to Tampa, FL in a couple months and was wondering if anyone could give me the scoup on Tampa flying jobs? Hoping for a SEL 135 kind of thing, students are coming close to killing me and I figure I need to get out of it before its too late. Although I also need to live so CFI job info would be appreciated. Pretty much any flying job and even some low time multi job info would be greatly appreciated! Also, If there are places to stay away from please tell me, been burnt before! One more thing, if anyone is knowledgeable about the CAP in the area down there could you tell me a good unit to get into to do O-flights?

Well if your glider rated I know the TBSS does alot of the CAP o-flights. You need 100 flights PIC in a glider to qualify.

Welcome to Tampa! As far as flight instruction goes, there are 9 airports within 1 hour of Tampa that offer instruction that I can think of off the top of my head. Nothing at Tampa Intl, but Peter O. Knight has a good flight school, located right in downtown Tampa. PIE has a couple of places right across the bay. Vandenburg airport on the east side of town has a flight school and 135, but check out their rep.

From your profile it looks like you meet 135 mins. Try Red Baron Aviation if you want to freight dog for a while. Or flight express has a Tampa base, and hires pilots with right at 135 mins.

There is a lot of opportunity here. Once again, Welcome!

Doubtful, last time I checked 61.69, you had to have 3 flights as PIC of a glider. But hey if you get you rating (it's not that expensive about $1000) there are a couple of glider ports I am sure one could use a tow pilot. I don't spend too much time at TBSS, I prefer Seminole-Lake because I spend alot of time in Orlando.

There are a couple other CAP squadrons, so some of them might take O-flights in power aircraft, but I don't associate with them, the local squadron, felt more like a good old boys flying club.

Kingairrick: Don't live in SLC, I live in St. Louis (STL). I am interested in doing some freight dog stuff down there so I'll probably look into the places you suggested. I'll probably pm you when I get closer to moving down to Tampa to get the last minute info so I can hit the ground running when I get there!

another cfi moving to tampa. good luck man. there are a lot of pilots out there willing to "rough it" on the sun coast.

i know this guy named rick who was planning on giving up a pretty sweet job at one time. not sure what happened with him...

what do you think rick? how's sunny florida? the northeast is still kinda ugh, but the multi time is getting much better. i moved out of the other place and into some guy's basement. the life man.

how'd the other thing work out for you? send me a pm. i don't get on much, but i'll get it eventually.

Ok I'm an idiot I reread 61.69, there is an or. You either need to be the sole manipulator of the controls in at least 3 glider tows (real or simulated) in the last 12 months or 3 flights as PIC of a glider getting towed by an airplane.

Still doesn't help much because either way you would need training, and all the places I can think of the top of my head fly Pawnees. Either way think about getting your glider rating, lots of fun.

cfii....there is a banner tow place in st pete. they're based at albert whitted (KSPG). can't remember the name of the place, but look up any number at spg and they'll be able to give it to you. i talked to them once to try some part time work, but it was more of a full-time position. the guy was talking about living in the company house and doing a lot of other work. it'd be a great way to build some time. i used to see them buzzing up and down clearwater/st pete beaches all day long at 300-400 feet. nice view.
