How far out does the terminal area go?

Can I use a TAF for an airport 10 miles from an airport reporting the TAF, how about 15?

I hope someone knows. I use the forecast for a Class D airport, and ATIS, even though I land and take off from an airport 10 miles away.

I notice that while the winds are pretty much the same, frequently the cloud cover can be different.

AC 00-45E:
"An aviation terminal forcast (TAF) is a concise statement of the expected meteorological conditions within a 5-statute-mile radius from the center of an airport's runway complex during a 24-hour time period."
