there is an approximate washout rate during airline training (at Pinnacle, other regionals, etc.) of ~25% for your typical new hire. GIA grads only average a 3-4% washout rate at the regionals

I dont know how accurate those numbers are, they might be fudged in the direction that sounds better for the school. Think about this, the commuters hire in droves from every area of aviation, flight instuctors, ex-military, freight-doggers, etc. Of that number, the people they hire from GIA might only be 8% of total new-hires, so a 4% washout rate would be about right. Another reason they hire low time pilots is because the pay for new hires is a salary close to the poverty level, higher time pilots that have been in other areas of comm flying just arn't willing to take that kind of pay cut. the trianing you get at the pilot factories might be good for some and some might not like it, but either way your still in the hole for about 100G's once it's all siad and done, trianing for a job thats gonna pay 17-18 grand a year, trianing that could have been gotten somewhere for much less than that.

Mayday1 if your really considering going to one of these schools, before you sell your soul, ask people who have been through them already, not the pitch given by the school itself, of my 11+ years of flying I have heard some real horror stories of lives literally ruined by these schools. They will promise you the world, but so will the devil.

Time for some corrections!

The numbers are not fudged. 58 out of 60 people interveiwed by Airlink were hired last week. Less than 2 percent of our grads fail out of training at Airlink.

Another reason they hire low time pilots is because the pay for new hires is a salary close to the poverty level, higher time pilots that have been in other areas of comm flying just arn't willing to take that kind of pay cut.
Now that just pi$$es me off.

The guys are getting $8 an hour are in the program. They are gaining experiance.

Now, I make 17 dollars an hour first year F/O. I will be a Captain in Feb but that is another story. If you think that I am getting poverty pay you are wrong. I make more than a first year F/O at COEX because I get 100 hours a month and a great QOL of 3 on 4 off. Weekends. HELLO!

If anyone is getting poverty rates its those who are flying CRJs for 20 an hour. I am getting payed higher than all other 1900 121 operators in the country. I am payed low, but it is higher than industry standard.

Take your opinions out of my face.

Bobby, other than the info The Russian has provided, what other substantiating info are you looking for? GIA readily provides hiring info, names & numbers of grads to contact, etc. To be honest, they have been more forthcoming with this info than other schools.

In terms of cost to airlines for training, I have no hard numbers. I would imagine classroom time, and particularly sim training/checkrides are not cheap - i.e. probably not a desired outcome to indoc a new hire, ground school, and sim time, only to have him/her fail the checkride and wash out - at least this is where I assume a majority of the washouts happen.

And just for grins, let's assume the hiring numbers are correct (for Pinnacle, Colgan, Trans States, etc.). Then what conclusion can we reach - on the quality of GIA's program (training, ability to place with airlines, realistic about opportunities, etc.)?

I'm not trying to make a pro-Gulfstream marketing effort here -- all I'm saying is that (PFT issues aside) they seem to deliver to a large extent on what they offer/advertise - more so than other "professional flight training academies."

Russian,
Just what is your connection with GIA??? Must be pretty tight, since you already know the #'s of hire from the last airlink interview(58out of 60)! One of my roommates best friend, who went to that interview is still waiting to hear if he got that job.....hummmmm

KGB Operative!

Just kidding. I've been an employee for over 2 years. Permenant F/O for the last year. CFI before that at the academy. I have my sources. But I don't know everything, such as names, just the stats. I think it would be unprofessional for my source to tell me the names so I don't ask. Good luck to your friend. Pinnacle is a great place from what I hear!

Russian,
Just curious,if Pinnacle is a "great place" why didn't you go for an interview with them yourself. Why stay with GIA?

Congratulations on your upcoming upgrade.

But, again, I'd bet you are less than thrilled about your airline's new P-F-T Captain program. If I were in your position, I would not be happy about my crew position that I earned now being for sale.
