since i'm a young pilot on the job hunt, i was wondering if there are any unique jobs out there. And also was wondering what some unique jobs people on this board have worked.

I personally would love to do some firebombing missions, or maybe fly for a company on an island in paradise. Where all i'd have to wear is my trunks, hawaiian shirt, sandels and a smile. A few of the pilots i talk to that work for regionals seem like the life gets drained out of them when they have to go to work, i for sure don't want to hate my job.

Well, I don't know for the firebombing stuff....they might require a lot of experience...
But for the islands, I will recomand you to get your seaplane rating, get a few hours in a twin otter and go to St croix or st thomas in the virgin islands. They are looking for FO's other there. Trunk and sandals for sure, and goodrhum at all time.

You got 700 hours, why don't you hook up with a drop zone and fly skydivers? Summer is just around the bend.

There have been some recent postings about fire spotting. I had a close friend that did it. You fly over the fire, spot it, radio it in, and direct ground crews to the locations. Lot's of flight time and the minimums are pretty low 500TT I think. Let me know if you want some more info. This is the time of year they are always hiring.

He said UNIQUE jobs. Not boring jobs!

Easy there Peteey. I've never flown meet missles, but have experience some very "boring" moments as a jumper before exiting the plane --Skyvan stalls as too many jumpers rush the tailgate over Eloy (I was on the tailgate and fell outside so did not get the same thrill those remaining with the plane did). King Air losses engine at 2K during climbout w/ 15 jumpers on board and makes emergency return for landing (I dunno, this wasn't my usual DZ so maybe this was an everyday occurence for this place, but I was nervous)--I also have some neat video I shot of Otter rolling into a nose down dive after last group exits. (I'm not sure if that is exciting for the pilots, but I always thought it might be fun to ride the plane down in that kind of maneuver.)

When the planes are tied down at the end of the day, the excitement is usually just beginning. I don't know where you been flying jumpers Pete, but you might want to check out other opps.
