Can we please forego the personal attacks and get back to the original thread? Most Posters here have already embarrassed themselves with dribble,nonsense and the inability to stay "on thread". Please, put down your Scotch or keep your 8yr old of your Key Board??? Okay, time for some REAL facts about the (former) "walk-a-mile" program at SWA. Walk-A-Mile at SWA is dead. Original program was under previous mgmt (Herb) If you contributed a FULL shift in a different department (on your own time) you got (one) "Non-Rev" Round Trip Pass that you could give to friends, family, etc. "Walk-A-Mile" was a HUGE success that promoted understanding into other departments. It was part of the "Herb" philosophy of mgmt. Currently, the only program is "Cutting Edge" organized and run by SWAPA. SWAPA Pilots VOLUNTEER their time off to work the Ramp in an attempt to continue the "bond" between the Ramp & Pilots. Volunteer Pilots (may) get a Hotel room, a few bones for a Ramp BBQ Cook Out & NOTHING else, no Per Diem & their Bar Bill often exceeds $200.00 (each) for the "Ramper after-work" Debrief. It's a SWAPA program for those who "live & work" in the REAL world. A world that escapes Mgmt Bean Counters. I give SWAPA Kudos for at least trying to keep the "Herb" spirit alive while current Mgmt seems to have it's only eye focused on numbers.

I agree, the previous program doesn't exist formally or with compensation- but any employee may shadow any other with whatever security and NDA restrictions that may apply- just go through your leader-

Sounds like Herb was "on to something". . . . Even better to have employees cross-trained. . . . Not necessarily Pilots, but at our outstations, for example, Gate Agents, CSA's and Rampers were cross-trained. It wasn't unusual to see a CSA in a skirt driving a tug, or a ramper checking someone in at the Gate. Did wonders for "on-time", and they truly functioned as a team or a family. Can't ever remember someone saying "not my job".

Btw, 20 years ago, I worked the ramp for Fedex. It was hard work, and they took care of their employees. Most of the Pilots, though, wouldn't look at you or acknowledge your existence, unless they absolutely had to. . . . When I'm on the ramp now, I make it a point to look everyone in the face, and smile, wave, or say something. It means more than you might think.

I did the 'Cutting Edge' recently as CEO. I sold about 10,000 shares of stock and went back to being a pilot after about 2 hours. Worked out well.

But seriously, the previous program sounds like classic Herb. He had a knack for running the company and bring most people together.

Walking a mile in another persons shoes is an invaluable experience - Here's why; when they realize that you've got their shoes, you're already a mile away. Also, they have no shoes and you become much more difficult to pursue.

I can see why this program would be so popular.

The program was called "Go See Do". It lost popularity. You know why? Because people expected something in return. You know kinda like bitching about not getting per diem.
