Southwest Airlines Reports May Traffic

DALLAS, June 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV - News) announced today that the Company flew 4.1 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in May 2002, a 4.4 percent increase from the 3.9 billion RPMs flown in May 2001. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 4.3 percent to 5.8 billion from the May 2001 level of 5.6 billion. The load factor for the month was 69.7 percent, the same as May 2001.

For the first five months of 2002, Southwest flew 18.2 billion RPMs, compared to the 18.4 billion RPMs recorded for the same period of 2001, a decrease of 1.2 percent. Available seat miles increased 4.1 percent to 28.0 billion from the 2001 level of 26.9 billion. The year-to-date load factor was 65.0 percent, compared to 68.5 percent for the same period last year.

Can't be bad

When you fly more routes and miles, and your load factor remains unchanged from last year I would say you are doing better than average in this industry in this day and age.
