Hello guys!

I heard a rumor today at work. One of the ladies says her husband is working on addtion to ANC's South Terminal, and he says that 3 of those gates will belong to SWA, is that true or not? Anybody hear about this? If so, what kind of routing will they have in and out of ANC?

Sure would be nice to ee them coming up here!

wow! that's not like SWA.... I'm inclined to think NOT..... good rumor tho..... LAS will have to open as a base first before that happens... plus there's so much more potential in the east coast.. It's so unlike them to do that....

Yeah, I am pretty skeptical about that! But, it is possible and who knows? AS would sure be furious about it!

A good rumor, but at the rate the new terminal addition is going up in ANC we'll all be retired by the time it is finished!

ANC

I know that SCA (Suncountry Airlines) is flying up there this summer. Which could be what she is getting confused with SWA. SCA sure doesnt have the need for 3 gates though.

I've heard a version of that rumor, and while I can't remember all the details, the gist of it was that, yes, SWA does have rights to some gates in ANC, but that this doesn't mean that they'll be going up there anytime soon. Just has the rights to use the gates, should they choose to. Might have been related to something going on back in the days of Morris Air.

I'm guessing that there are still a lot of profitable Lower 48 cities SWA could go into before ANC is the most lucrative target on the radar screen. Going overwater or a long haul over Canada would almost certainly require some major changes in OPSPEC's and equipment.

Also, Southwest tends to use more than 3 gates when they go into a new city these days.

Interesting rumor, though.

They actually say the terminal construction should take 1 more year or so.

SCA is actually flying up here twice a week and pulls into one of DAL's gates.

THey fly DEN-MSP-ANC and then back to MSP.

Everyone and their cousin flies to ANC in the summer. SWA has the rights to the gates from the Morris days and well as gate rights in COS.

I don't work for SWA, but I don't think ANC would be on the radar screen for a long, long time. Simply not enough year around traffic and Alaska owns virtually all the infrastruture (gates, fuel, belt loaders, etc.) at all the surrounding airports in the state. It would be very difficult for them to come in on top of us at this time.

SWA got the rights to those gates when we bought Morris, not that I think we'll use them anytime in the distant future.

Hope this helps.....
