I posted this question on another thread and only got one response, so here it goes again:

On the onlline application, which scores higher?

Aircraft Instructor

or

Captain?

I'm currently a Captain/Instructor for a 121 carrier and I didn't know which would score me more points. I chose Captain??

Thanks.

Here is my .02 cents.

PIC is PIC. For the minimum qualifications no one will notice how you got it.

Your answers to the questions in the interview will show us if your experience will make you a good fit into the airline.

My personal experience is that the guys working as captains have much better answers than the guys who have been instructing a long time.

As for the grading for getting the interview, I haven't heard a grade difference between evaluator, instructor or captain. But this is a brand new process and many of us are learning along the way. Also there is a certain degree of secrecy going on with the new process and it is likely they will never share that type of information.

Preparation is always the key.

Called the PD to get this info for a friend who is a Captain/Check Airman and was told that the highest (Best) category is Captain/Commander. There is another box to check for Check Airman/Mil Eqiv.

As it should be.

OK Guys, what box do I check if I was Part 121 Captain on DC-9, yet at th same time I was a IOE and Line Check Check Airman?
It seems to me that you would want to check "Evaluator", because that would be higher than just Captain/Commander?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Seems to me that Captain being the highest on the drop down menu would confirm that it is the highest category.

Also, there is a separate question that asks if you have been a check airman and I would check that if I were you.

Don't think I agree with the comment below...If you check the drop-down menu, Evaluator Pilot falls between Co-Pilot and Flight Engineer. I'm no rocket scientist, but I don't think SWA will be giving you more "points" for being a Co-Pilot than an Evaluator Pilot or Check Airman....

Appl. score

Haven't checked the webpage out in details, but a drop down box is usually in alphabetical order unless the programmer did some fancy programming, so maybe we're reading to much into it.

Learflyer: You should be able to right click on the picture and save it to your pictures folder. Easy as pie!

Can you folks shed some light why Captain/Commander rates higher in the civilian flying world than Instructor and Evaluator/Check Airman? Can only speak from mil experience, but seems that the first step of the process is to become the PIC (captain-civ, aircraft commander-mil). In the AF, once you gain some experience as an aircraft commander, you step up into the instructor role. Then from the instructor group, you select the senior and most experienced to become evaluators. Thus, it would seem that it would be the higher time and most experienced Captains who attain this position.

Just curious. Normally, the best position going is the aircraft commander who flies the line and gets out around the world on a regular basis...handling problems as they arise. Instructors tend to get tagged to stay flying the local training lines and only get the occasional off station trip, so SWADude's comment on better answers makes sense as well.

Thanks...

I think Frix got it right with the observation for the SWA application drop-down menu. The positions are in alphabetical order:

Aircraft Commander/Captain
Co-Pilot/First Officer
Evaluator Pilot
Flight Engineer
Instructor Pilot

It still may have been ordered in a certain fashion, but it doesn't look that way to me.

The captain flying is much more closer related than the instructor and evaluator/checkairman flying. We hire line pilots.

But thats only my opinion.
