I understand that the hotels are very cheap in OAK, and that the hotel is a better choice than a crash pad. What recommendatioons do you guys have out there?

La Quinta, Quality Inn or Days Inn. About $47 out the door.

If someone yells "GUN" be sure to duck. And lastly, you don't have to outrun the mugger, just the dude you're walking with!

Gup

I'd avoid the La Quinta if I were you. I had my credit card information stolen and a bunch of charges show up that took a while to get staightend out. Several other Pilot's and F/A's had the same thing happen to them. I told the OAK CPO and I think they took them off the recommended hotels list. Just be careful out there. Welcome aboard though!

Adventure

If you like bungee jumping, skydiving, setting deep diving records, base jumping, cigarettes, motorcycle racing, travel in Burma, combat operations, snake charming, borrowing money from the mob, and high-speed chases, then you'll enjoy the walk to Denny's from any of those hotels at 10:00pm. The local cops will offer you a ride (and a good scolding) if you wear a shirt, though. ws

FLY,
Stayed out there all of July. Nice part of the country to fly. I stayed at the Days Inn, the 5th floor has new rooms, decor and they put all overnight flight crews on that floor (for safety reasons???). Very prompt shuttle service in the morning and they will pick you up from the BART station if you commute into SFO and BART around to OAK ($5.80 and very easy). During the day you can go next store and get a few groceries and the Sack n Save, but as previous posters have said, when the sun goes down, be in your room for the night. If you need anymore info, feel free to PM me. Good luck and welcome aboard.

My understanding is there are no crash pads in OAK...I'd start planning on the hotel angle and narrow down your options. Ditto to the above posts...welcome aboard!!!

Another thing to consider is Football season. The hotels are just a few blocks from the stadium and a room can be hard to find the day before and after a home game.

Laquita- bad beds, breakfast is late after you have left for that early show, credit card stolen.

Quality- Outdoor access to your room(bad) all new beds, they put you on the third floor if they can and breakfast is out before 5a.m.

Day Inn- they have their own shuttle (the others share a van service) best deal with the free night, own diner, never tried it.

There is also the Hayward LaQuinta, nicer area if you are on reserve you can actually walk around. They have their own van but only on the hour.

Good luck and welcome to a great company.

Also the Bestwestern. It is about $11 more per night, but very clean, nice beds, all indoor rooms, Breakfast is available even if the doors are closed, free internet nice employees. They will drive you down the street to get something to eat. I walked around but before the sunset. Stay away from the hood behind the hotels, stay inside or get rides after sunset. Even walking in the Wally World parking lot during the day can be risky. Good luck and welcome aboard!!
