Howdy Ya'll,

I just got to thinkin'. My new unit puts all new pilots in the right seat for 6 months to a year. Will this have any effect the way SWA looks at my flying currency? You won't believe it, but I got to thinkin' bout this while flying tonight. It's weird to have a darn near panic attack while flying. MUST CONCENTRATE ON FLYING!! MUST CONCENTRATE ON FLYING!!

Thanks for any advice or info,

SR

PIC time

Obviously, things are going to be different now that the criterea has changed, but I bet they won't be that different ... As you know I kept a meticulus logbook - but I left it in my brief case for the interview. What I produced was my military records, my civilian log book, and 3 sheets of paper. One was the form they gave me, the other was the raw data from the two source documents (mil records and civ logbook) and the third was the brigde between the two. My job was to keep the logbook checker's job easy. My three sheets answered all of the basic questions I figured he'd ask - basically, how I got the numbers for their paperwork.

As you know the USAF doesn't track PIC so I had my logbook ready in case they wanted to know how I came up with my PIC, or any other number for that matter. But it never came up. I am willing to bet your lack of recent PIC won't even get noticed, and if it did, so what? You are still in a flying job and you'll get plently of PIC while you wait for the pool to drain

Seriously, the big thing is to not freak out over this. Fill out the paperwork honestly, and if it comes up, you have a reasonable explanation (it is not like you are sitting in the right seat because you screwed up). Yes, they are looking at "competetive criterea" these days, but I am posative the "hire for attitude, train for skill" adage is still true. These days lots of pilots are changing and even losing seats, I bet they cut people slack (within reason) on this.

Best of luck
