My brother had an interview scheduled just before 9/11 that was cancelled for obvious reasons by SWA. I was wondering if he would be able to have the interview invitation extended to him again since it was SWA that cancelled it (whenever they start again)?

Any thoughts on how he should go about this?

Do you happen to remember when his interview was originally scheduled for?

I had a friend that was scheduled for an interview just post 9-11. He was re-scheduled and interviewed that Oct. He ended up in class in July of 2002.

Did your brother keep up with the updates? Did he keep in touch with the company? They are really good about taking care of such things.

I'm pretty sure that anyone who had a firm interview scheduled before 9/11 was offered the chance to do it in October of 01. I interviewed 9/10/01 and they considered our interview class like any other and I was lucky enough to get the call that I should go get a type rating in the next 6 months in November of 01.

They also did a bunch of interviews in Jan-Mar of 02, cleaning up a bunch of people that had been told to 'expect' interviews some time in the near future. I'm not sure of your brother's situation but did he by chance turn down an offer to interview post 9/11? If so, not sure he'd get any head of the line privileges but I guess that would depend on what him and the People department worked out.

Your post stated the interview was scheduled before 9/11. SWA did not cancel any interviews BEFORE 9/11. Interviews scheduled AFTER 9/11 were mostly rescheduled in October, and a training class was also added in October.

Some who were originally scheduled to interview in October 2001 were eventually interviewed in January.

If your brother did not cancel the interview on his own accord, or turn down a subsequent interview offer, he should have been interviewed in January 2002. I find it hard to imagine he would not call SWA to ask why he was not one of the 900 pilots interviewed in January-March 2002!

I have seen things fall through the cracks in the People Department. If you are serious about your brother's situation, then I can only surmise that is what happened. Advise him to call the People Department pilot hiring folks ASAP to discuss the situation and review his application folder.

Regardless whether sat74's predicament is legitimate, there is a valuable lesson to be learned by all pilots reading this board. Mistakes do happen! I have resolved some pretty unbelievable situations for past clients due to mistakes made by the SWA People Department folks. If you ever think something is wrong with your application folder, pre-interview paperwork, or post-interview actions, PLEASE pick up the phone and make an investigative call. They will be happy to help explain the situation or find the problem. You are actually doing them a favor because folks have been fired/transferred for making gross errors.

Just checked with my brother and he said the first interview was scheduled for before 9/11, but was rescheduled due to a conflict for after 9/11, which was cancelled. He then heard that when interviews resumed, the type-rating requirement was implemented again to be selected for interviews.

Sounds like a huge confusion and miscommunication to me. Anyway, I believe he put a call in the other day and is waiting to hear back.
