SWA Interview Attire

Anyone see anything wrong w/ wearing a Haloween tie to a SW interview as an ice breaker? I feel that my standard Ronald Reagan might not be totally necessary....

Well, while we were waiting to go home from the interview the other day, an interviewer ran into us and we started chatting. He complimented someone on his tie and then commented how he thought it was ridiculous for somene to wear a goofy tie to an interview. I was told by more that one person, make sure they aren't remembering you because of your clothes.

Do it man if it is you and professional. I wore an Ohio State Tie since it is my good luck tie. Hello National championship in 2002 ,as well as complete and utter domination of Michigan since Tressel came aboard. This was me i am a die hard Buckeye fan and graduate. Go BUCKS! I also had a buckeye in my pocket for another good luck charm.

I wore a mini-skirt to my SWA interview.... I am now working for Continental!!!! I guess they didnt like my sasquatch legs.

In all seriousness it is Pilot interview at a great career airline... you shuld probably treat it as such. Let your personallity out in the interview, assuming its good. I would bet that the standard interview uniform applies. Dark suit, conservative tie. I do think the Navy blue thing can be stretched one guy I interviewed with at CAL wore a very classy Dark Olive suit with a tan shirt. Yes he did get hired.

go with dark suit white shirt and red tie (if u want the job)

save the whacky ties for once you are off probation

I say take a chance on the halloween tie if you can find one that is somewhat conservative...no blinking lights or sounds...glow in the dark is ok.

Some guys in our group had blue ties ;o) One of the Interviewers even commented with "Wrong airline" when we were having the group brief.

I think the puff PR piece that everyone reads on SWA ("Nuts") has sent a lot of guys to the "no" list.

Because some HR interns made some professional pilots change into boxer shorts (because they could) and paraded them around, doesn't mean that wearing boxer shorts to any professional interview is a good idea.

I actually couldn't finish that book, some of the "fun loving antics", like the boxer short deal made me think of the downsides of using power to humiliate.

A job interview like that is so important, you could ask a guy to drink a bucket of spit and he'd do it. That doesn't mean bringing your own bucket is a smart move.

Don't do it, I had the opportunity to sit in on interviews with SWA and asked a question just like that to HR and Capt/FOs doing the interviews. For a marketing job, that's great, but not for a Pilot position. Treat it as if you were going anywhere else.

Judging by many of the posts on these forums I would advise most people here to be anyone other then themselves when interviewing.

I would advise going with traditional tie. There is a small percentage of people who might find your novelty tie whimsey and give you some points for wearing it. Likewise there is a small percentage of people who will be revolted by it and hold it against you.

Going middle of the road you minimize offending somebody.

Blue suit - Be sure it's powder/baby blue. Wear a powder blue Rick James funky top hat.
White shirt - Sequins are OK!!
Red tie - be sure it matches your crimson red cane, and red leather boots.

I've often thought the standard dress code for interviews is ridiculous. Having an Army of 50 clones in exactly the same getup makes me laugh. There are ways to be conservative that aren't imitative. That said, I'd skip the novelty tie, but dare I ponder <gasp, the horror> a conservative blue tie, or even worse, a shirt with the slightest gray or blue tint?

Many a SWA pilot have been hired with a blue tie. Question is... do you have the guts to do it, knowing a conservative blue tie is inconsequential and the real determining factor is the the interviewees answers and how he presents them!

I wore a Celtic tie my daughter picked up for me in Dublin. No red in the thing. Just a multi-colored Celtic design. Hired. If it wasn't my lucky tie, I would have worn red. :0

I didn't go the traditional route with my suit, but that's just me. Still got hired. I wore what was comfortable for me.

Around this time of the year those kind of ties are quite common and you definately won't stand out. Everyone will probably be wearing some variation of it. You're better off getting a Jetblue tie, one that wont clash with the suit. Now this will really make you stand out in the crowd!!
