I have a SWA interview in a few days. Just wondering if anyone has worn something besides the usual boring white shirt/red tie...... and gotten hired!
Not thinking of wearing my old pirate outfit either!

I wore a regular black suit with a white shirt and a black and blue tie for SWA, FedEx and a manufacturer's interviews. That tie went 3 for 3, and I now consider it my lucky tie. I wouldn't stray too far from the black/dark blue suit and the white shirt though. Only 1 guy in 12 wore a blue shirt at FedEx, and only 1 guy didn't make it through the interview. Coincidence? Probably. Do you want to take that chance? I would think that your chances would be better at SW if you decided to make a fashion statement than at most places though.

Good luck!

Black suit, maroon tie with slight pattern, white shirt. Got hired...Don't make any statements even at SW. Impress them with other things.

From my personal experience working here and speaking with some interviewers, I would say all you need to worry about is looking nice and professional. I didn't wear a Red tie, it was gold I think, with some pattern, but it looked nice. One interviewer mentioned a guy who didn't bring a jacket at all, that was not a plus in his "pro" column. Play the game a little bit by wearing a typical suit, but if you think the tie is the show stopper, you are probably busting the interview for being too uptight already. Good luck, be yourself, prepare, and have fun.

When I interviewed(this past Jan), I wore a dark Navy blue suit, white shirt, and a blue tie. Even with a non red tie I managed to make it past the DB last week.

About 1/2 the secret agents that day had a red tie(or something in the red family) and white shirts. The rest of us wore everything from blue to gold ties. I saw one or two blue shirts. For me personally, the idea was to look nice, conservative and professional, but not the stereotype(red tie).

That said, the tie(and or attire) shouldn't be so *fashionable* as to be distracting. You want the interviewers making eye contact and listening to you, not checking out the cool pattern on your tie. At least that's the advice I was given. FWIW...

Chest waders with no shirt and a top hat.
Overalls and a pith helmet.
Leiderhosen, complete with a mug of fine german 'bieren'

I wore a canyon blue shirt and got the job.

I also wore a blue shirt, the only one in my group, and only 4 of us were hired. It will look like an FBI convention when you show up so wear something that you feel good in. But it is not the outfit you wear, it's what's in it that counts. If you wear something that is not "you", it WILL show. Good luck!:)

I wore a blue shirt with a yellow and blue tie, navy suit with faint pin stipes. Not too far out there, but the only one not in the "uniform" (blue suit, white shirt, red tie). I felt comfortable and happy to be there, like Cannon said, the most important thing is to be confi and be yourself.

You clothes shouldn't "say" anything. You want them to think you look nice and professional like all the other interview candidates. Anything that causes you to stand out... ie. truly shabby or out of date clothing, or anything made to look like your pandering like loud, fun "SWA style" ties etc is a negative.

Look professional, bottom line.

I was gonna wear my OU tie, but I hear one of the recruiters is a big Jayhawk fan - may not go over too well after the game last night!
