Southwest has hired folks who were furloughed, folks who were still gainfully employed by their current employer. In all honesty though the vast majority of folks who will be called in the future (no interivews in Nov & Dec at this time) will have types due to the fact the pool of applicants who do have types is sufficient enough & has enough breadth of experience for a good cross-section of experiences that Southwest generally looks for when it comes to hiring.
I say this not to discourage folks from applying but to make your expectations realisitic when it comes to getting the call for an interview. Now, if you are one of the fortunate few who get the call & don't have the type, then you're viewed with the same eye that all other applicants are when it comes to meeting the decision board. We have hired folks without types & will continue to but with the vast number of folks (95% my best guess, not based upon inside SWA info) of interviewees with types vs. non-types one's odds of getting a call increases significantly by having a type....however, the number of folks who have types is rapidly increasing as more & more are entering the pool of applicants who are furloughed & with type school graduates adding to the list....don't get discouraged though even with that...if you don't apply you can rest assure you won't get called....regardless of your quals, if you have the mins apply.......one must be realistic on when one will get the call based upon what your quals are. Good luck to all
