Just checked their website and it seems that after February 11th, there are no more flights direct to and from PHL-BOS. Is this just a glitch? I don't remember SWA having previously announced to discontinue that route ...

The agent that worked our flight out of PHL this morning says it is so. BTW it was a PHL-BOS turn this am and the loads were not good either way. He said no more PHL-PIT as well

So every SWA route isn't a goldmine? USair is kicking your butt on those routes, and now you may end up like their hateful pilot group? Crazy stuff!

Godspeed to the Cornies!

OYS,

You might want to re-read Whatburger's response on the other thread. He knocks it out of the park...

We don't farm out a high percentage of flying to commuters like Delta does, and we have NO codeshare partners like Delta does. We either attack a city Southwest style or we don't do it at all.

This game plan has provided over 35 straight years of profits for us.
How do the financials look for Delta's last decade or so?

I am truely happy for the city of Atlanta because ultimately the Customers win. We will run low fares to every city we serve starting next year, and other airlines (Delta especially) will lower their fares (probably at a loss) and the customer gets to go see Grandma in LBB for $69 each way.

Just like American when we went to Missouri from Love Field, Delta will attack our markets with RJ's and small mainline jets until the loss cannot be sustained any longer, then you will retract from the battle after sending your RJ's (not Delta) to compete with us.

It's just business. Don't hate the player, hate the game. I hope all airlines turn monster profits from now until eternity.

Godspeed, d@uchbag

My BOS flight today was packed. Shuttle flying tomorrow and one of the FA's was saying we are full all day Fri.

Not to add fuel into the fire, but how can you make money on a $69 fare? (Or whatever the introductory fare is)

I don't wish ill on anybody, but I can see LAS becoming a battleground between WN and NK...

That is just all of the displaced Eastwipes trying to get back and forth to work!

:pimp:

Also no more MHT and PVD to PHL. Airways does that too in RJ's. It is a hub for them...we us BWI. I wonder how many on Airways stay in PHL or just use it as a transfer point. I know when I have done PVD to PHL with a load of 100 or so we had like 25 thru passengers. Not worth it to tie up a plane in the mess we call Philly. I think a lot has to do with tieing up our planes and delaying them all day when our "hub" is BWI with much less delays.

All these short flight reductions will make a commuter's life even more difficult. Just wait until the Wright Amend goes away in 2014. LBB, MAF, AMA and all the other small texas station will see reductions as well.

Kinda strange to me that there is more hype over the CNXL of PHL-BOS, OVER the PHL-PIT route. I've looked at those PHL-PIT manifests. They (on average) carry a TON of Airways jumpseaters and flight attendants.

Hey, we were always glad to help the USairs crews back and forth to PIT. But the harsh reality at SW is..if it doesn't pay the bills, we don't do it.

Seems to have worked pretty well for 40 years running.

No kidding. You pack a plane with non-revs and what do you get? No revenue.
