Pardon the inquiry, but what would a future new hire (should start in mid-September) expect to spend on a headset and more importantly, what ones do all you SWA folks recommend? thanks in advance.. -klr

Plantronics and Earmold...$40.00. Don't buy a headset til the dust settles.

Agree, you must buy the ear mold set in the lounge during the break. Spend the $40. It's a great backup to have in the bag anyway, plus you won't be in pain until this whole thing settles out.

Bottom line, when the QC2/UFLYMIKE comes back, it's a MUST BUY!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the input! I will definately buy the 'Plantronics and Earmold...$40.00' during training. I know I am really going to look stupid for asking but what the h*ll, I take it that there is some sort of basic/cheap/uncomfortable headset in the aircraft if one were to chose never to buy their own nicer one? Thanks again, klr

They actually give you the Plantronics for free in training. It comes with different sized tips that fit into your ear, if you choose to use them, if not you can plug your custom made earmold into the tube where the tips go. The earmold is $40.00. I really like the earmold, it has a plastic bar that holds the mic and you have nothing that fits on top of your head. The cheap headset in the airplanes are only for observers since they dont have any mic attached and you have to have a boom mic below 18,000ft. Good Luck and welcome to Southwest!

Sounds like the QC2/U-fly mike and the Bose Aviation X are very close to the same thing and the same result/quality. Only difference being the almost $1G for the Aviation X vs. a much more sensible (read that to mean less expensive) QC2 deal for about $500 total. Looking forward to Dallas in late summer!

I have a question, since the airplanes don't have "hot mikes" how do you guys talk to each other with Bose X's on or whatever?

Honestly I use a telex 850 in the 737 which is more than enough... I normally keep my left ear open unless we are really hauling a$$ and it gets loud in that thing.
