The type rating is required for employment, not to interview. Not this time. Now they outright require a 737 type on your ATP certificate already:
USA DOT/FAA Airline Transport Pilot Certificate. The certificate must display the following:
"Airplane Multiengine Land" Category and Class Ratings
B-737 Type Rating
("B-737 CIRC.APCH.-VMC ONLY" is the only permitted limitation for the "B-737" type rating requirement.)
"English Proficient" limitation.
Plastic certificate (plastic not required if the certificate is a valid temporary certificate.)

Where exactly would someone hired at Southwest right now fit into the whole SW/AT merger?
Just remember that the 1000 PIC you arrive with may be the only PIC you ever see.
If you can be happy with making 140-180K a year the rest of your life from the right seat then apply.
If you think SWA's pay will never go down, then you're delusional.
I can agree with this^^^^^^^
Two in my class just a few years ago were hired without the type. 1000 pic IS required. I was told by the hiring lady 1200 to 1500 is best but it never hurts to try
Ouch... Thanks.
Did you really think you would be ahead of some AirTran guys?
Phred
If I recall didn't the minimum used to be "1000 turbojet PIC where you were the pilot assigned as the PIC for the flight" or something like that?
Now it's just turbine? I've got it if my turboprop time counts but if not I don't.
