A Southwest Airlines plane made an emergency landing about 9:45 p.m. Saturday at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport. A Southwest Airlines official said a gust of wind may have forced the Amarillo-bound plane down early, before landing gear was fully deployed. No injuries were reported. The runway was expected to be closed until the plane is removed.

So the 737 was over the runway and the gear was just comming down....HMMMMM. Thats one heck of a landing profile.
 
Those guys sure have fun over there, especially when they are flying naked and lowering the gear over the numbers in a "windshear" condition. No, let's stop talking about this, and start bashing SONG.

The Rocky Mountain News put forth a more plausible story, that of a brief runway excursion in high winds after touchdown (with the gear down and locked) but a gear collapse as they rolled back onto the runway.
 
All 3 gear? Was the gear handle down? Were they trying to get dressed again and forgot to put the gear down? I am glad that nobody was hurt.

Details are obviously yet to be released, but from my understanding from a SWA employee that was working at the time wx was not that great.

The weather observed at AMARILLO, TX (KAMA) at 09:53 PM CDT was:
The skies were cloudy.
The weather reported was heavy thunder rain and fog.
Temperature: 60F ( 16C) Dewpoint: 57F ( 14C) Relative Humidity: 90%
Winds from the E (080 degs) at 32 mph.
Pressure: 1011.6 millibars. Altimeter:29.99 inches of mercury.
The prevailing visibility was 1.5 miles.
There was 0.92 inches of precipitation in the past 6 hours.

Windshear was a supposed factor that tipped the left wing which drug into the grass and shearing the nose gear. Both mains were still intact but both engines destroyed.
 
SWA/FO,

I was simply addressing the question whether or not they had departed the runway and collapsed ALL 3 GEAR----. Then I asked if the gear handle was in the down position. Then I was wondering if they had been naked and maybe had been trying to re-dress, and forgot to put the gear down. Got it? And, I was saying I was very happy that nobody was hurt---which is good.

Sounds like typical spring weather at home. It sure has come in handy having learned how to fly there.
 
For those of you who like to speculate about incidents about which you have no knowledge, get a job at the National Enquirer. General Lee, you are feeble (albeit singleminded) in your attempts to bash SWA, so give it up.
 
In spite of all this finger pointing, speculation and internet accident analysis, let us all be thankfull no one was seriously injured.

Southwest Airlines plane sustains minor damage after landing

AMARILLO, Texas — A Southwest Airlines plane sustained minor damage when its front landing gear apparently collapsed shortly after landing late Saturday, an airline official said.

The plane, flight 2066 from Las Vegas, appeared to have landed properly about 9:30 p.m. CDT, said Ed Stewart, Southwest senior director of public relations. However, shortly after landing, a strong gust of wind pushed the plane off the runway. The pilot was able to bring the plane back onto the runway, but the landing gear failed afterward.

"We are investigating whether it was a microburst," Stewart said. "Weather was definitely a factor."

None of the 63 customers or five crew members was injured, Stewart said.

Passengers were met at the plane, a Boeing 737, by buses and taken to the terminal.

The plane was removed from the runway shortly afterward, but the runway remained closed Sunday morning until some damaged lights could be replaced, Stewart said.

Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board were expected to look into the accident.
 
Thank God nobody was hurt! So, was the crew naked or not during the accident? Oh come on, if this is the only thing I can bash Southwest about you know the airline is a great airline. Take it as a compliment.

we were about 20min behind that flight into AMA. The wx we got from the tower was winds at 11022G35 with 6 miles vis. SWA was landing on rwy4. Not sure what winds they had but we got in using rwy 13. Glad to hear everyone is ok.
 
Yes, General they had their clothes on. Its required part of the checklist.

Glad everyones OK.
