I just looked on the SWA website and saw an update on the pilot page dated Oct 9,03. It said you can now interview without a 737 type! Once hired you need to get one. Anyone have info on this? Is it true? Is this old news? Are they taking apps now? Sounds like they have some big growth plans!

Thanks!

been this way a long time

Not really. When they last closed the application window, (which is currently still closed), they indicated that when the application window re-opened, a 737 type would again be required for interview.

Evidently, they have changed their mind and reversed this decision, since their current web page indicates you may apply (when they begin accepting applications again) without the 737 type rating, but must acquire one within 6 months of successfully completing the interview process.

You can do a search, if you desire, and see how this issue has gone back and forth over the last couple of years. Regardless, I think without a type, you go to the bottom of a very large stack of qualified applicants who do have types, and who will get the call first.
