Can anyone recommend a good education loan consolidator.....Currently a first year F/O, so I'm always strapped for dough...just looking for advice on how some of you folks made it through your first couple of years and payed off some of that haunting student debt? Thanks!

Call you loan providers ask them for paper work to defer your loans for a year or so. They would rather have you delay payments for a year than default on the loan.

1st---- Bank of Mom and Dad!
2nd--- Marry someone with money to help support your hobby :-)

I found it extremely helpful to use the graduated loan repayment plan. Ultimately you're going to pay more money back, but I personally think it's worth it for the lower initial payments. As your longevity and pay goes up, so does your loan payment, and it's easier to keep up that way.

I agree with p-dawg on the graduated plan. I just paid the minimum amount on the loan, when I could I would pay more. Now that I'm furloughed, I'm looking at forbearing(sp?) the loan for a few months, I think you get 3 chances to forbear.
If you have a goverment loan, I think either July or June 1st, they will increase the interest rates to something like 7% as a mininmum, so try to consolidate before then.

You could rob a bank.

I just lived at cheaply as possible and put all available extra cash into paying off debts when I got my payraise. As an FO, you are used to living cheaply. Don't change your habits until you are out of debt.

My wife makes 4 times my salary. I don't know how I would of done it otherwise.
How can you enjoy the right of being a freeman, if you are hiding behind the skirt of a woman?

Even though I am not at the regionals yet(maybe soon), my wife is the one who brings home the bacon. She made 5X what I made in 2005. She'll make more than me probably for a very long time. Put your ego away and understand that marraige is a partnership. So in the long run, Marry rich and don't you ever lay off the booze!!!!!! You'll need it when you bring home your paycheck and the wife laughs at it.
