Playa Bravos..... surf shop in Agaudilla. If you are going to rent, give them your business. The owner is a longboader and will be more than happy to give you info on where and when to surf.
CAL serves Aguadilla from Newark and PanAm from sanford. Service is not daily. Fedex is not taking off line jump seaters yet, don't know about tradewinds though. Your other option is to fly into San Juan and rent a car. I recommend "Charlie's", they won't hastle you if you scratch the car up a little, and in PR that is a very real possibility. You shouldn't pay more than $30 a day regardless of who you rent from. Get an economy car and bring soft racks... you don't need 4 wheel drive. The drive to the west end is 2.5 to 3 hours, probably more the first time since you will get lost.
There are many places to stay in Rincon.... lots of guess houses, I can tell you where I like to stay, but then I'd have to kill you.... I like to show up last minute with no reservations when there is surf and have a place to stay.
Aguadilla and Isabela (northern part of the west end) are more consistant than Rincon because of the tradewinds and if Rincon doesn't have surf you will end up doing the 35 minute drive each morning for surf.
I agree that the west end is not a good place to learn, mostly reef breaks with lots of urchin. better to learn on a beach break on the mainland.
