My instructor suggested that I get a set of sunglasses for flying. I don't want to look like an idiot and show up with some Walmart brand that just wont suffice. Does anyone know what I should look for??? Do I have to go all-out here or what???

First utilize the search function of this website where you will no doubt find all of the answers you are seeking on the topic. In absence of doing the search, keep in mind that flying is going to take a lot of your expendable income away in a very quick fashion, so there is no reason to have to go out an spend a ton of money on flying crap from Sporty's when you're just starting out.

But the simple answer to your question is that in my opinion Serengetti sunglasses are far and away the best to wear for flying. But they also cost about 2 hours of rental in a C-152. Just as a side comment, you're going to be looking at a lot of things now in terms of how many hours of rental they are worth. For example, nice dinner with the girlfriend= 1 cross country.
Good luck with the training...............

to each his own. I find that nice sunglasses always get lost or damaged. Keep in mind that you will probably drop the glasses several times, maybe sit on them, who knows. Spend wisely. I bought I $6 "Dockers" brand that has lasted me just over a year. I'm looking for new sunglasses now because these are scratched and cracked after a year of hard use. Remember, buy what feels good underneath your headset.
Good luck and remember, expensive sunglasses get scratched just like the cheap ones do...

Get some of the $8 plastic jobs at a gas station or a flea market that have the little "100% UVA/UVB" stickers on them. If they fit you, and don't block your peripheral vision excessively, then fly with them.

BluBlockers

Get a pair of BluBlockers. They should set you back about $15 at Wallgreens. They really do eliminate a lot of haze, as advertised.

It's all a matter of what you want, how much you're willing to spend, and how good you're going to take care of them once you do get them.

I'm "blessed" with being able to wear glasses 24/7 to see my hand in front of my face. I had a pair of prescription sunglasses made and love them to death. I take good care of them and always keep them in a case unless they're on my face.

$500 or $5, it's all boils down to the three questions above.

Does anyone else have that horrible BluBlockers rap stuck in their head?
