The show was better this year than last. That could just be that I went on better days this year, though. It still isn't as large an event as I would like to see, but for the first time I have to publicly admit: Fuel prices are just getting to be too high. I paid 5.17 at one stop for self serve. 4.17 was the cheapest I've seen in a while, paid that on the way back at CTY. 10 years ago a trip to Sun n Fun would have been a $300 fuel cost. Now it approaches $1000.
The T-Birds put on a great show, I get over the tumbling and spinning airshow maneuvers of the G.A. performers pretty quickly. I much prefer to watch precise lines and timing than someone tumbling out of the top of a half-cuban, or something. I don't even know what to call most of these things anymore. Not they they even look planned enough to be called maneuvers.
The weather was beautiful while I was there, so that was good. I bought a new headset, drooled over some new Pitts, Extras, etc.
I summary, the show was good, but I didn't fly away with a great deal of excitement. I always enjoy a good airshow, though. One thing I have to point out, now that I think of it is the fact that everyone working the show seemed to be just as surly as hell. And there wasn't much organization. I monitored the Warbird Parking freq. for 15 minutes and tried to raise someone on it after directed to switch to that freq. by an escort. No one was on it, and finally I changed to Sun n Fun Advisory and asked and he said, "I'm the only one". No one knew where to send us on the ground and all the volunteers marshaling and parking were at each other's throats and ours, too. I swear, you give a volunteer a yellow vest and he'll think that he rules the world.
I hear that someone was killed leaving the show on Sunday morning. Anyone got details?
