Ok, here's the story.....currently have 3rd class medical which will expire in a few months and I'm getting ready to go for a 2nd class.

Now, since I'm under 40, my last medical (also my first) was almost 5 years ago and I can't remember how I answered the questionaire.

Short story is regarding the question about 'have you ever been rejected for military service?'

Technically, I tried to enlist over 15 years ago and was rejected for a 'history' of a skin condition. A couple years later, while in the merchant marine, I was approached by an officer recruiter and found that all I needed was a waiver - which they took care of and I've been an active duty officer for over 10 years.

So, bottom line, depending on your point of view, the question could be answered either way. On one hand, I was rejected, but at the same time the service that initially rejected me, later accepted me without any change in condition and since it was 5 years ago, I don't remember what my thought process when I last answered it.

Any recommendations on how to answer that question, or should I just explain the situation directly with the AME and ask his recommendation before answering the question on the form?

I don't think a skin condition that was wavier by the military is going to cause you any problem. There must be some web site some where that lists condition that would cause problems in getting a medical.

The history of the skin condition isn't really the question.....it is the consistency of the answer that I am concerned about. In other words, if on this medical, I enter it, or enter that I previously reported it and I didn't, then it could look rather strange if anyone compares the two. If I don't list it on the new medical, but I did on the original, then it again looks strange if compared.

I think the crux of your question isn't so much whether you should admit or deny having been rejected, but how to answer consistent with your previous reply. Your concern appears that you don't remember how you answered last time.

You should always get a copy of your medical application, and should keep copies in a file. It's an important legal document, and failure to properly answer can net you a fine, a certificate suspension or revocation, or even jail time.

Do you remember who did your exam last time? If you can remember, see if the medical records from that exam are available, and ask to see them before you complete the medical exam this time. Make every effort to be consistent.

Unfortunately while I do remember the AME I used last time, he is in Rhode Island and I'm now in San Diego. I am going to try calling the office, but I suspect they won't be able ot release that info over the phone.

I have heard that you can request your Airmen Medical records from the FAA.....will those records include the past application forms (form 8500-8)?
