Do you make your students do a before landing checklist if they are staying in the pattern? Say you do 10 touch and go's with them. Do you require a before landing checklist each time on downwind?

I wish I had to do it while I trained. It would have been a good habit to pick up so I don't forget in when I come in to land.

yes.....

makes good habit when they get into retractable gear planes later on

dont forget, complaicency (sp?)

It's important, I think.

Laws of primacy and exercise fast at work there...get them to do it right the first time and they won't gear up it a week after you sign them off to solo the FBO's new retract...

Chances are if they don't do it during touch and goes, they won't think to do it when they're making one landing after a long flight. Most piston airplanes I've seen have a pretty short checklist, should be plenty of time on downwind to get it done.

there was an accident where a kid didnt do a pre lamding check and geared it in at RVS with CFI on board. dont let it happen to you bodean.

If you have a URL of the report, I would appreciate it. I email my students stuff a lot. It will make the point "hit home!"

BTW - Kream926, I won't let it happen to me. Thanks for the heads up.
