I have a student working on his private in a Saratoga. When does he need a complex/high performance signoff? Along with his solo endorsement???

That is a good one. First of all your solo endorsement is type specific so it should cover it. But 14CFR61.31 (f) states it must be a logbook entry and it is a one time endorsement. Solo endorsements are not considered a one time entry. So I would give your student a high performance endorsement and be done with it.

You are right!

In 61.31 (e)(1) and (f)(1) it states that no person my act as PIC unless they have the endorsements, which are a one time thing...

unless your studnt meets the requirements of 61.31 (e)(2) and (f)(2), he will need the endorsements the first time he acts as a PIC, and if nothing else changes, this will be during his first solo.

So, go ahead and give him both endorsements !!!

It's the law!
:p
