Let's say I know this guy.....

What would you do if:
You have 14 Years Active Duty
You have orders back to a fighter
You've had a Meet N Greet, but no interview call at FedEx
You have no ADSC
You could fly in the reserves

Not looking for advice, just want to know what you would do.

Cheers

well, if I had orders, i'd have an adsc. :)

I'd get out, get a guard reserve job of any type to keep benefits, get the outside job, fedex or whatever. Give the extra time to the family.

I would stay in and get my 20.

what's an ADSC (I'm a Guard Baby so your acronims scare me!)

I second the "Get out, fly in the reserves, fly in the civilian sector. Spend time with family".

CLAMBAKE

I left Active Duty at the 10 year point, so it was an easier decision.

Only 6 years to go. Stay In.

Stay in. The 6 years will fly by, and you'll be in a cockpit. Maybe in 6 years, the airline/box world will be in beter shape.

Get out join the guard hunt for an AGR position,If FEDEX calls jump on it.

I would stay and get my 20. The longer I'm retired the more I appreciate my retirement check and the medical benefits. The combination of some monthly income and at least some kind of medical coverage allows me to make choices I would'nt normally have. I don't use the medical and I try to save most of my retirement check, but having both of them available gives me the freedom to stay or not at any given job. Without them I may feel less likely to move on to different opportunities. I'm learning that a lot of people stay in jobs they may otherwise leave because of considerations like these.

More reasons

There is chance you will get out and not get a job with FedEx. Plus you could go to a reserve unit and find your self in an active duty deployment cycle, where again the military runs your life. FedEx interviews military retirees you still have shot at them in 6 years. Plus if you have a full time job and stay current in the reserves your family life will also suffer due the 4-5 days minimum your unit wants you on the schedule to maintain currency. So that is why staying in could be a good decision.
