Stereo adapter

Heard of a product that you plug in like a headset, then plug your headset into it. You can then hook up a Walkman type player to it and listen to music. Anyone have info on this?

I tried to build one. Headed to Radio Shack, dropped $50 on jacks, a board, an enclosure, resistors, diodes, and a switch. It worked, looked neat, but wasn't usable. One signal almost overwhelmed the other with lots of static, and the auto muting feature I tried to build into it failed entirely. Any retail version or even a good schematic would be appreciated.

I currently use a portable intercom with an auxillary input plug, I bought a 1/8inch to 1/8inch adapter wire from Radio Shack, I can plug in my walkman, cd player, dvd player from my laptop, an mp-3 player and etc, works great, fairly cheap.

If you are in the market for a new headset sometime soon, the new Lightspeed 30-3g's have a built in plug in recepticle for a 1/8inch plug, you can hook up all the previous items and also it has a cell phone interface, pretty cool unit.

The main problem is the impedence mismatch. An option that should work is to pick up one of those gizmos that you can plug into and use your cell phone through your aviation headset (from SafetyCell or similar--I picked up the one from BlueSky Networks at the AOPA Expo in Palm Springs, love it), get a 2.5mm to 1/8" adapter at Radio Shaq, and you should be in business. You might need a mono to stereo adapter too, now that I think about it, since a CD player's output is stereo and I suspect both units are mono.
