Hey all, I'll be starting with Skywest in a month or so in the Brasilia and had some questions for the folks who've been there a while......

1. When do benefits (medical, dental, travel etc. etc.) kick in?
2. I've searched all the forums and couldn't find anything specific on what type of flight bag works best in the Brasilia...any tips are appreciated...
3. any recommendation for headsets?.....I have a pair of DC's, but I've read that the brasilia is a Loud MF...
4. Anything that I need to watch out for that doesn't fall under common sense so I don't get fired on my day off???

Again, Thanks in advance......

Medical and Dental begin after a very short grace period I think 30 days. Travel is right away on Skywest 14days for UAL and I think 30 days for delta.

Flight Bag something soft sided a hard case really takes up to much room in the EMB.

Headset. DC will work fine and is pretty common. Get off first year pay before you buy and expensive pair.

Don't be worried about getting fired takes a lot to get let go here attitude go a long way around here.

Hope that helps Welcome aboard.

Travel for family is 90-days, I think. Regular DC's work pretty good on the Bro. Some people wear DC's with earplugs. Try out a variety of combinations, it comes down to personal preference. Welcome!

Dude- I've seen some people wear those headsets they wear in the jet. Telex? Then they stick a plug in the other ear. Wacko!
DC's work good, till you try on the Bose, then theres no going back! Welcome!

Your medical and dental start after 90 days. Travel on Skywest begin after 14 days, Travel on United 14 days, Travel on Delta 30 days. As far as getting yourself not fired. Basically don't do something stupid at the Candlewood, don't bring your books to Lofty's and study, and watch out what you say about SkyWest, you never know who's around. That's pretty much it, good luck and welcome to the family!

Congratz and Welcome aboard. Just study hard in class. Company will be growing for the rest of the year. Plan on sticking around for the weekends that will help IMO.

if you live close, go home for the weekends. You'll go nuts if you don't. I went to vegas and met some friendsone weekend, and went home to Orange County every weekend other than that. You gotta take your mind off things. The only problem is making sure you get back. Unless things have changed you wont get id's until well into ground school. Like 3rd week or so. Southwest always has seats available for jumpseat.

1.Medical... 90 days
2.Flight Bag... I use a TRAVELPRO CREW 5 DELUXE TOTE. Works great for the FO Bro's side. Just type that into google or here is a site for $ 69. http://www.boeingstore.com/catalog/index.cfm?fuseaction=product&theParentId=54&id=4214
3.Headset... I use a D/C but I also put in ear plugs. The combo works good and you will still be able to keep your medical when your 50!
4.Be yourslef... and buddy up with people for ground school.

~~~Congrats and good luck~~~
Thanks for all the advice and support...just one more question though........exactly how much stuff are you required to carry??? just trying to get an idea of how big of a bag i'm gonna have to carry...I've been instructing for a few years and have gotten into the headset and clipboard mode...........thanks again...
You'll get an idea once your online. I bought this unecassary flight case that was waaaay to big. I now am back to my bag that I used for a month when I was working on my private. It works fine.
Depending on what trips you bid, you'll know what size bag to take. If your on a 2 day back to back with a short overnight or a long 4 day trip. It all depends. I can fit all three manuals and headset in my small bag. Flight cases are too big for the bro, if your gonna get one, make sure its small.
Yeah like Royal said.... you will get an idea once you are on the line for a while. To tell you the truth though, if you go to that web site I sent earlier about the crew 5 bag, it is the perfect size. It has just the right room for a d/c headset, your jepp manuals, and your skywest manual. And of course your other necessities like flashlight, ect. Its wider than it looks in the pic, and it fits great on the FO side.
Get some ear plugs from the FA, E-Bag travel cooler (available on SkyWest Online) so you can afford to eat on no $$$, and go to Costco and get a cheap roller bag that you can afford to trash--and they will replace it when it breaks, Office Max has a soft side tote that is about 14"x20"x10" for $40, that worked well for me until I went to the jet...which will most likely be your next move so don't get too comfy in the BRO.
As for staying out of trouble it is pretty easy at SkyWest, just keep your head in the game and get as much rest as you need, it will keep you healthy and alert in class- haha. Good Luck JP.
Don't forget to vote for Professional representation at your earliest opportunity. You might be new but the trend of the needle has indicated a dive for a few years now. We need to pull up.
Just remember, we're suppose to maintain on or above the glideslope until in a position to make a safe landing.
That is not quite accurate. If your class starts on the 2nd of the month....your medical does not start in 90 days, but the 1st of the month ..in 4 months. The first full three months after your first day of class.
Clear as mud? they have been pawning that 90 day BS for years.
Yeah my buddy was suppose to be able to get buddy passes last month but they called him and told him he had to wait a month, so since December it'll be 7 months in June.
