What's going on a Spirit? I heard they lost some military flying (NGU-NIP-NBW) due to weak financials. Does anyone have more details?

The sky is falling the SKY is falling...........

A private airline doesn't post financials so who knows...........but all signs point to flamebait.

All airlines are required to post some financials.

Check out bts.gov and do some poking around, you'll find things about spirit in there, although slightly old data, like 3rd quarter 2006 is current stuff on bts.gov.

3rd quarter 2006 revenues: 128 million
3rd quarter 2006 operating expenses: 154 million
3rd quarter 2006 operating loss: 26 million

Alpine, It would have been cheaper to keep the military flying. If you'd shown up at the latest FLL LEC meeting, you'd have heard the DO comment on this situation.

Apparently, they decided to give it up so that they could use the airplanes in a more profitable venture. There may be more, but the bottom line is this: we're flying our stairstepped little composite tails off. It's not like we're furloughing and downsizing.

I found it odd that Spirit would bid on and then pass on the government cheese. If they can be more profitable flying elsewhere then good for them.
